Boyd County, Gilliam part ways

John Gilliam and Boyd County parted ways on “good terms,” said the coach, after four years on Monday, but it wasn’t Gilliam’s choice.

 

The school elected to not renew the one-year contract after the Lions went a combined 11-31 under Gilliam’s direction.

 

Boyd County improved its win total from one in 2013 to four in each of the past two seasons, but it missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

 

“(Boyd County has) always been good to me, good people,” said Gilliam, who was Morehead State’s defensive coordinator prior to his time in Cannonsburg. “From the administration on down, they’re trying to put the things in place. We just — and by we I should say I — I wasn’t able to get the job done this year. That’s the nature of the beast.”

If I'm Boyd Co I hire Fred Ray today. Fairview football goes with him you can bet on it.

 

At that point I full believe Fairview may have a school but no football program. That leaves a 2 team district in Raceland and Paintsville. Redirecting would have to be done. Domino effect that changes several teams in potentially multiple classes.
