November 9, 20169 yr Getting the statehouse to flip has been McConnell's 30-year project. He didn't like Trump but knew better than to speak publicly on it, so that's why he's been pretty quiet. McConnell's having a good day. I see Mitch and sometimes Elaine Chao at the Highlands Kroger a couple of times a year, usually on a Saturday morning. The last time was when I was getting a flu shot 4-5 weeks ago. A woman came up to him and told him that she was sorry but she could not vote for Trump because of his attitude toward women. He said merely something to the effect of "thank you for sharing your view"......nothing more, nothing less. This seems to be in keeping with his reticence on Trump. Further, I think the Republicans can thank their lucky stars that Trump pulled them through, the way they disowned him. I know he will have to work with them but I don't think he feels that he owes them any allegiance. He is like a quasi-Republican, not a true Republican (as that term will come to be defined over the next years). I think he will feel free to strike deals with Repubs and Dems----the hell with them all.

All the more proof that no matter what people think of him, he is quite possibly the most clever politician KY has produced to maintain his power and know when to step up or shut up. He may be despicable, but he is smart.
November 10, 20169 yr While there is so much divisive angst on the national scene, the state result does seem to give common pause in a big way. This will be seen as a 'mandate'. And that is bothersome. I never liked most state Repub policies and Bevin's antics have more than worn thin. And his 'farewell' to Stumbo yesterday was just completely classless and mean. I guess we will not be getting full Casinos and god knows whats coming on the social issues. Most Kentuckians are live and let live people. We do not need government inserting itself where it is not needed - economically or socially. 'Limited' government applies to all aspects.
