Covington Catholic vs Louisville Collegiate (Round of 8)

Last year, on their way to their first Soccer State Championship, Covington Catholic had to topple a 7th Region power in this round...the Shamrocks of Trinity. This year, the defending state champs must face another 7th Region squad in the round of 8, the state's #1 team, Louisville Collegiate.

 

Game is in Lexington on Saturday the 29th, and it should prove to be a fantastic game.

 

Thoughts and predictions?

Collegiate wins 3-1.

Collegiate 2-0. Probably will be the best game of the state tournament.

Tall order for the Colonels in this one as Collegiate appears to be a goal scoring machine. CCH defense will have to be solid and if they hold Collegiate to a couple of goals then CCH has a chance I think. Midfield battle will be key in this game and CCH will need someone other than Schutt to start winning some 50/50 balls in the middle of the field.

 

Biggest question in my mind is, can CCH score on Collegiate? They've given up 15 goals all season and only once have they given up more than one. Time for the top CCH players to stand up if they want to advance.

Certainly appears that way. We said that last year about the Trinity game and it turned out to be correct (in the Round of 8). Winner will be a clear favorite to hoist the trophy, in my opinion.

sure would be interesting to have he 7th and the 9th region play for the state championship.

I wouldn't get too ahead of ourselves as I'd think Dunbar and Daviess County will have something to say about the state title regardless of who wins this matchup.

If Collegiate should win it all it would answer my question from a couple months ago about who or when was the last team to win the All A Championship and State Championship in the same year. Quite a feat if they do.
