My Favorite Debate Moment

Featured Replies

Still the champ for me.

Heard Maureen Dowd reference this and figured I'd post it.

There's got to be a better way to describe whatever he was describing than the "Dingle-Norwood bill." You can't step up to somebody with "What about Dingle-Norwood?" :lol2:

I can't seem to find it right now but there's a great one from the 1992 VP Debate in which Quayle brings up the fall of the Berlin Wall and Gore says something to the effect of "Bush trying to take credit for the fall of the Berlin Wall is like a rooster trying to take credit for the sunrise." It was pretty good.

That one was great.

The most stunning thing about that video is that a newspaper reporter was asking debate questions. Talk about days gone by...

Too many today want to interject themselves into the story instead of reporting it. It is refreshing to watch some of the old debates.

It's because they aren't reporters anymore... they have to be TV personalities.

I definitely have ones I'd prefer (John Dickerson of CBS News or Gwen Ifill of PBS News Hour are two I don't mind watching on TV) but it'd be nice to see someone on there that wasn't trying to be a TV star.

On the other hand, Lester Holt basically just let the entire first one get away from him by almost never interjecting. It was a complete disaster.

Agreed...political and personal discourse is at an all-time low. Too bad a show similar to Hannity and Colmes isn't out there with two opposing views that can be respectful of each other and each other's position...you know be more like Stephen A. and Skip. :lol2:

In the end, it's nothing new. It wasn't an actual debate moment, but anytime I worry that we've gone too far off the rails with political fury, I remember that this happened 50 years ago:

I wonder if Buckley was buried with a pencil in his hand.
