I have noticed several tweets on my time line from HS basketball coaches saying how coach so and so came to our workout to watch out team. Does that ever happen in soccer? Do any hs invite coaches to come watch workouts, practices?

Can't speak for all but I think it would be very unlikely for any college coaches showing up to watch a practice. I would even go as far to say that there are not many that actually come to HS matches either.

 

I can only remember a handful of occasions in which I have seen college coaches at any type of HS match, I am not saying it doesn't happen, just not the norm.

Thanks. And I understand we're in the same seasons now. I have just seen several instances of Basketball coaches, then baseball has the PBR group that hosts showcases fairly local and I have ever seen HS host their own combine type event for local athletes and invite coaches in. Seems like soccer could benefit from same. I really was wondering if those events happened in other parts of the state, but just not in the Western part.

I believe most college coaches do much of their recruiting during the spring. They can go to a top flight club event or tournament and watch 10 legitimate players in one afternoon. Many high school games would only feature one, maybe two players. Smaller college coaches may hit some games when available. Some coaches also watch for players during camp season.

Warbeagle took the words out of my mouth. Like other sports, College Showcase is a better use of the Coaches travel budget.....

 

.......with that said, local coaches do travel and show up. Someone mentioned TMC Coach. He was at a lot of the CCH games last year. Same with Cincy Christian and a few others.

Would agree with most of these comments, never say never but I would be shocked to hear of a college coach attending a HS practice session. I've known local college coached such as Mt St Joe, TMC, NKU in NKY and Transy, Georgetown and few others in Lexington (and likely Louisville) attend games between top HS teams when it fits the college coaches schedule.

 

Clearly college coaches do by far most of their recruiting at top showcase tournaments and their own on campus ID camps. Way more effective and better use of their limited resources.

A college coach at a high school soccer game is often more about a player seeing a coach (who is there to see them) than it is about a coach seeing a player.

Sir! Completely agree with your comment. The coaches know who can play and not without going to see a high school game. If the player is good enough the coach wants to make sure he knows the school is interested.
