Bardstown/Nelson County Predictions

Featured Replies

I've seen Btown play. Good speed...as always. Never been technically sound. Nelson might not have all the talent, but I believe the cards will do the little things right this year. This is not to say they'll be victorious friday, but I think they're taking steps in the right direction.

Coach Bruner has them taking steps in the right direction, no doubt

Dino didn't play the fall of his sophomore year and came out again in the spring because he had coach mason for biology. He played last year, but just wasn't ready. Great kid..works hard. Good luck Cards.

I shouldn't have directed that comment directly at coach Mason, where I do believe Mason is a great coach. From what I hear he had problems with the coaching staff as a whole pushing him to be better.. He was immature at the time, and didn't understand why the coaching staff was "Yelling" at him..

Matt Tingle is one of the Nelson County lineman. He played in middle school at Washington County. Nice looking lineman with a little quickness. Nelson County has some talent. Bardstown just pounded two pretty decent football teams in the past two weeks. Bardstown should win but I wouldn't be surprised of an upset or a close game.

This game used to be one of the state's best cross-town rivalries, but Bardstown has dominated for several years.

After 30 some years can we call it a rivalry? I know it is a cross town game, but B-town has dominated the 4-A Cards! If I'm wrong please correct me but isn't B-town 23-8 vs NC and 5 of the 8 wins have been since 1997.

Our local newspaper writer made that same argument in the paper yesterday. The record is 5-4 B-Town since 1998. 2004's game was a classic. I don't think historical series dominance drops it out of the rivalry range, or is even a criterion. Auburn has crushed Alabama for several years, but don't tell me thats not a rivalry anymore. The game became less fierce when it went from the last game of the season to the third in the early 90's, but these kids still talk about it year-round.

If he was immature, which I doubt, it was only in not forecasting the response of the Nelson County administration.

I think Mason can be a good coach, but I think he was a little immature for the Head Coaching position at that point in time. IMO it would be hard for any newcomer to be successful in the eyes of the Nelson faithful who were, at the time, used to producing winning seasons.

Of course, Coach Mason also had a couple of nice winning season, including a first round playoff victory over Manual in 2004, and in 2002 a very gutsy performance against a Michael Bush-led Male team in the first round.

Let's (myself included) keep this on the topic of the 2006 Bardstown v. Nelson County game, and not delve into a discussion of Bill Mason.

Did some checking...19-15 in 2002-2004 (Nelson County had only 19 wins in the previous 3 season)...0-10 in 2005, district coach of the year honors in 2003 and 2004 and 2-2 vs Bardstown. For a young (immature if you will) that ain't bad vs the teams they played. I also noticed that Nelson County was VERY competitive in the games they lost. Sounds like something else happened. I also believe I've seen Coach Mason's name in the mix at #2 Mercer County...seems like the folks in Harrodsburg are excited to have him calling their D that has been scored on once.

I witnessed the Male game in 2002...Nelson County had the 2nd best team they faced all year...and the 2004 upset victory of the top 5 Manual team...those were some hard nosed CLASSY Nelson County teams (the 2000 Nelson County team that lost to Male in the first round was a far cry from CLASSY). That is what we expect to see come to Louisville from Nelson County. I met Coach Mason at the Louisville Coaches association meetings...he wasn't immature.

I know there was an ugly break-up between Coach Mason and Nelson County...let it go at this...He was a good coach for 3 season and he is a good coach today.
