Western 47 North Laurel 14

Featured Replies

All Western the 2nd half. Jags looked better in the first half, but couldn't stop Western's speed.

Collins looked very solid. Don't have his numbers, but he isn't Western's only weapon. They are a very solid team.

North had much more balanced play calling, but without Asher, Maggard (who played a terrific game as usual) was the only running threat. The Frosh QB, Wardrup showed that he has a terrific upside and I would be surprised if he is not the QB for the remainder of the season when Jones comes back from his hip pointer.

What I hate the most is that this group of seniors should have been North's best group in several years. They sure looked like it early on and until last season, they had never experienced a losing season at any level. As frosh, 3 got significant varsity time. As sophs, several were starting. But they have lost several solid players from this group over the past 4 years. This is a very small senior class (7 or 8) from what was a solid number 4 years ago (22+). NL has to find a way to keep these kids in the program.

But on the upside, there are some very good numbers and some talented frosh and sophs to build with for the future. Hopefully, these younger players will gain the experience and continue to improve so that come district time, they are ready to step up even stronger.

Keep your heads up boys, ... you still have a lot of games to play and I know you will give your best effort to turn this around the next 2 weeks before district play starts.

Western is a very well coached and talented team.

North Laurel has got to find a way to stop the run and get some offensive consistency going. Last year at this point, they were 1-1, and should have been 2-0 had they not blown a 20-8 lead over Mercer late in the game after Cessna went down with his knee injury. They were only blown out 1 time all season (by Mad Southern when nothing went right) and lost 5 games by a TD or less (they were 3-7). They have the talent to be better than they have been showing the past few weeks and need to step it up with only 2 more games before district play begins.

I know they can do it. I know they have the talent, ... come on boys, I have faith in you! Their pass defense has been much better than I expected and I am not sure which coach is doing the DB's (I think Blair but am not sure of this), but whoever it is has done an excellent job with them, especially considering that they lost their most improved DB (Adams) to a broken collarbone before the season started and didn't have Asher tonight (injury). They are getting some solid play from younger players (Wardrup - Frosh, Baer - Soph, etc) and I really expect them to improve a great deal over the next few weeks.

How will Louisville Western size up against Breathitt Co.

I think that depends on Breathitt's defense. If they can stop the run and contain Western's stable of speedsters — I saw guys make nasty cutback moves tonight that the Jags simply couldn't deal with.

Looks like they will stack up just fine. Hope its Breathitt, because somebody needs to step up in E.Ky! Hit somebody! Of course, Louisville is all that the first week of May. This is football season though, so somebody hold the line please.

They can't deal with straight-aheads either. You guys might as well blow the year off, and that's a shame for the Asher kid. He deserves a little better than that.

NEVER would I tell any team to 'blow the year off'. They have played 2 games, ... 2 games!

And it's not just ashame for the Asher kid (who didn't play tonight), .. it is a shame for every player on the Jags team, especially all the seniors, Maggard, Hartney, Lawson, Lee, Robinson, etc. Trust me when I say that these kids have worked every bit as hard as Asher. In some cases more. EG. Chris Maggard is a 5'8" 160lb senior who plays his guts out on every play. He was not blessed with the size that Asher has, ... but NOBODY plays the game any harder than he does. His heart could support a 500lb man, that's what kind of kid he is! It is ashame that Asher had to miss a game due to injury, especially his senior season. But telling a team to blow the season off is ridiculous.

I disagree completely. For the reasons MT cited, and the fact that I saw Wardrup improve some more. He will continue to do so, and as he learns the offense and his weapons develop, North has a chance to improve in what appears to be relatively soft district.

Adrian has all the tools and he will just get better. Another weapon or two and their offense would be much improved. I said that Maggard needed more touches, and he looked good tonight. However, add a healthy Asher into the mix, and maybe one more weapon and they would be much better. The playcalling was better at times tonight.

The defense has to improve against the run. But they do have a lot of young guys playing who will be improving with game experience since the players and coaches will wisely not heed Brewdog's advice to blow the rest of the year off.

Who are you to tell a group of high school kids who aren't on scholarships, or getting payed to play, that are out their to have fun and better theirselves that they should blow a season off. That may be one of the most rediculous and ignorant statements i've ever heard. Its obvious you don't know much about high school football

The most thoughtless, ignorant post that I've ever seen on BGP. I'm wondering why you think Asher deserves more than any other kid on this team?

You are definately BGP'er that I'd love to meet some time, we could have one heck of a "discussion".
