Watusi Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 There seems to be quite a lack of concrete information about the Mr. Football award. I know it has been discussed before, but I still don't have a good handle on it. So I have basically two main questions about it... 1. What is the actual criteria to be eligible to win the award? Is it senior players only? Is it based on one season or a career award? 2. Who votes for Mr. Football and how many voters are there? Is it only credentialed AP members? Are electronic media (KSR, BGP, etc) members afforded a vote?
Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I'm about 99% positive that only seniors are eligible. Beyond that, I don't know much of anything about criteria. The award is presented by the Associated Press, and I'm under the impression that all of the voting is done amongst AP members, both print and electronic broadcast. One interesting thing about that is the fact that there is essentially no AP membership to represent Northern Kentucky unless you go across the river into Ohio and allow Cincinnati AP members to vote. Otherwise, the nearest AP members are in Louisville, Lexington and Ashland.

Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 @Jason Frakes put out a really nice article about the leading 2016 candidates today in the CJ. He also pointed out in the article that although the leading candidates may represent a good mix of all positions, the actual award winners have been noticeably comprised almost solely of players in skill positions. Jason would most likely be able to best answer your questions as well, 2C. Top 10 Candidates for 2016 Kentucky Mr. Football
