New Spalding footballs

Featured Replies

Has anyone seen/used the new footballs yet? If so, what do you think of them?

Looks cheap, really appears to be very similar to the Rawlings. Just need to see how durable they are once you start using them.

I've talked with two coaches I know about them and both have had positive reviews thus far. How well they hold up will be the main thing and was the most common complaint with the Rawlings. If they wanted to best ball on the market Wilson would have been the best choice imo.

Has a tackified ball ever been considered?

All leather balls have a natural tack. Are you talking about a composite leather ball?? Those balls are terrible, especially when wet, and lose their shape quickly.

Yes. And leather balls do have a somewhat tackified surface at first when new but quickly loose it. Of course kids nowadays use gloves with that grip tack palm so I guess it doesn't matter how tacky the football. Just thinking.

You can restore the tack of leather footballs balls just by lightly wetting and brushing it. Certainly you can't do this an unlimited amount of times, but you can really extend the life of your footballs by investing a little time.

Any tackification isn't going to be permanent. The one thing that really kills footballs is wet weather. Once a ball gets soaked, it's pretty much done.
