June 9, 201610 yr OK @newarkcatholicfan, I'm going to take Stephen Thompson over Rory MacDonald. Let me give some reasons. Wonder Boy is an ELITE striker. He is 57-0 as an American Kickboxing champion. He controls space so well and keeps guys away from his body and in his kicking range. He just knocked out Johnny Hendricks in the 1st round. He was amazingly impressive in that fight. The one loss he has in MMA is to Matt Brown who is hard-headed and is a great wrestler. He was able to get to Thompson, keep pressuring him, smother him, and get him down on the mat. This is Rory MacDonald's path to victory. He will have to keep the pressure on Thompson and get in close. He'll have to turn this into a grappling match to stay away from Thompson's strikes. However, I think Thompson is much better at countering the wrestling of his opponents since he lost to Matt Brown. He has been training with Chris Weidman and learned how to counter a take down and how to stay away from the clinch. Therefore, I think Thompson is going to beat MacDonald. I would love to see him then go against Lawler. Lawler is also a powerful striker and a brawler. It would be brawler vs highly technical striker. It would be fun to watch. So, give me some reasons why you think MacDonald will be able to beat Wonder Boy Thompson. BTW, here's a video of a kick boxing match by Thompson. Look out Rory...
June 12, 201610 yr I agree with the love for wonder boy, he's been impressive lately. Really looking forward to this one should be a good fight as Rory's a title contender as well. Then you have Cerrone on the card who is always entertaining.
June 13, 201610 yr Yes, very entertaining card with just those two match-ups. Since Newarkcatholic hasn't responded I will mention that Rory's a complete MMA fighter. He was trained to be a Mixed Martial Artist. In other words, he wasn't a wrestler first or a karate guy first, or a Jui Juitsu guy or a Thai kick-boxer first. He came up as an MMA guy right from the start--training in multiple facets of the martial arts. Another positive for Rory is that he is a warrior. The last fight he had with Robbie Lawler was a war. They both were a bloody mess. The kid is tough as nails to hang in there with Lawler and he dished out plenty of punishment, too. Gonna be a great match.
June 20, 201610 yr Author I was in Fostoria, Ohio watching a football all star game, so I missed this show.
June 21, 201610 yr Thompson def. MacDonald in a unanimous dec. I saw a highlights video. As I suspected, Thompson is too skilled of a striker for Rory to deal with. His technical game is so precise and too hard to predict the direction his strikes are coming from. I would love to see Thompson and Lawler. Cowboy is back on top. He deserves another title shot. He is a very entertaining fighter. He overwhelmed Cote and knocked him out.
