Heard the AD's want time kept on the scoreboard. That will require a timekeeper (probably a paid position) that can keep their concentration on the field. If this does come to fruition first rule the uninformed will need to learn is that the whole ball will have to completely cross the goal line before the horn sounds.

Without a horn this is fruitless, you can't both watch the line and the clock. And I sure as hell wouldn't want the referee standing with their back to play in the box just to observe the scoreboard.

 

If everything works I have no problem with the stadium clock. Otherwise it should be just as it always has been, to simply give you an idea of the time.

I'm struggling to find anything in your post that is true and for sure the last piece of eliminating added time is entirely erroneous.

Ahhhh.... the subtleties of sarcasm. In truth, I cannot think of a single advantage of keeping the official time on the scoreboard. In high school soccer, with unlimited substitutions, fitness and athleticism are too often substituted for an attempt to play the game. Coaches who either don't understand the game or don't have enough higher level players (of both) simply ask their players to go harder, win more fifty-fifty balls, and outwork the other team. It is one of the biggest weaknesses of high school soccer and results in a playing atmosphere that increases the chances of player injuries. A scoreboard with seconds ticking down at the end is only going to magnify this (sometimes) wreckless urgency that characterizes much of high school soccer. And I guarantee you, we'll get parent/fans complaining about "blown horn blows" (too early, too late, horn blown too long or too short) in addition to the parents/fans who already help officiate and keep time from the stands.

If anyone knows the rationale for the change I'd love to know. They keep time on the scoreboard in Ohio also and with more ohio teams playing in nky it will help with consistency.

Consistency is all good and well but let's face facts, nky didn't have reliable clock operators or clocks at many fields until recently.

 

Plus it has to work (including the horn). I seem to recall a thread where people were complaining last year about clocks. Don't remember which one though.

In general, high school soccer should strive to follow as closely as possible the rules used by US Youth Soccer for sake of consistency. I'm not sure why they need to use the scoreboard at all other than for posting the score.

Gotcha. Well I know in Lex and Louisville, this has been the norm for a long, long time. Also, when you get to state, it is all by scoreboard, so better get used to it.
