May 3, 201610 yr Everything I read tells me that the Lakers will struggle until they settle their ownership issue at the top. The Lakers were better with Jeanie running the ship than they are with her brother in charge. Jeannie has never ran the ship.
May 5, 201610 yr Everything I heard was that she was running things before Jerry died. Maybe not. She has never made any basketball decisions for the Lakers. She has ran the business side of the Los Angeles Lakers. Jim and Mitch have been running the basketball operations. Jeannie wanted to bring Phil back and was hurt when they chose Mike D'Antoni over Phil. Jim has one more year to get the team back on track or she will fire him and likely hire Phil as his replacement.

I think their positions were defined by their father before he passed away and they are honoring his wishes. After they chose D'Antoni over Phil as coach Jim Buss publicly stated that if he didn't have the Lakers going in the right direction in 3 years then he would step down and Jeannie could hire whoever she wanted to replace him. This season is year 3. It was ugly because Jeannie publicly stated that she wanted Phil as the coach and she publicly stated afterwards that she was hurt and disappointed they didn't choose Phil. There's no doubt in my mind that if the Lakers strike out in free agency and suck again this season then Jim is gone and I expect Phil to take over his job.
