Long snappers

Featured Replies

I think the most underated player on the field is the longsnapper. Any schools have a good one? I know Trinity has a good one but i cant think of his name.

Outside of punting it can give a kid a great chance of advancing not only to the college ranks but also the NFL. I think it is a very important job when you truly think about not just field position but also gimme points like XP's and chip shot field goals.

Yes, longsnappers are very important to punts, and FG's. A slow snapp can lead to a block punt or kick, and an off taget snapp for a punter can mean poor form due to adjusting to the snapp, and a bad hold for the holder means bad kick by the kicker.:jump:

Great point! Kyle Henson from Flemming Co played on Nebraska's National Championship team (he was there to longsnap). Bartrum from Marshall has hung around for a 10+ year career in the NFL by longsnapping.

Which national championship team.... that have won 5 since 1970!!!

Casey Co. has a great long snapper, he has been one for a long time and is very experienced at the position. His name is Phillip Andrews #61.

Ashland has IMO one of the best snappers in the area, Jesse Parsley.

Real good point gryche11, It is considered a skill and colleges coaches are always trying to find who can snap. While we are discussing it we should also give some credit to the holder, that is a lot of pressure to catch and palce the ball at the precise spot.

That's right. i saw him play in the scrimmage tonight and his snaps were perfect. Is anybody looking at him to play in college?

Now that you said it, I do recall T's snapper throwing some of them back there, all very tight sprial and on target. Don't know if any colleges are looking, but he has the size and abilty to do it. He was very good.:thumb:

I long snapped for my high school team and am now doing it in college. It is a big part of the game and puts a lot of pressure on one person. I sprained my thumb in a game last year and couldnt grip the ball and it nearly cost us the game due to a blocked punt and a snap over the punters head.
