Time to hear some info on Greenup Co. baseball team

Featured Replies

After losing state the Semi-final game last year at State to Highlands, Greenup returns a team made up of 9 jrs., 3 sophs, and 3 frosh players. Currently 22-0. Last season finished 33-11 (8 losses to out of state teams), after a dismal 1-7 start.

These guys appear to be the real deal, but we don't get much info on them in NKy. Can someone in the know share details, details, details! Got to hear about this team, currently rated #1 in Ky by USA Today, and #2 by LexHerald. Please share info for us baseball guys on BGP.

Saw in Ashland paper on-line that Greenup Co. defeated Rowan County ace Cam Planck last week in front of 20 major league scouts, by a mercy rule score of 12-0. Pretty impressive for Musketeers, and pretty embarrassing for RC. Might be more to the story that the article didn't share?

I went to the Rowan Greenup game. Planck threw well. Greenup scored on multiple errors in 1st inning. One hard hit ball the whole game. What Greenup can do is play defense. Shoupe behind he plate keeps runners in check. Middle infield makes all routine plays and the outfield can move. Very solid team. No one throws much over 80 but keeps ball down and defense will field and throw em out.

Thanks, Listerine. Got to be lots of Greenup fans out there! Hope they share info. With no NKy newspaper, BGP is our only reliable/unreliable source to follow teams. Give us what you got Musketeer fans.

Where's Danny Noonan when you need him?

So there were 20 MLB scouts in the stands for a guy who doesn't throw hardly over 80? Surely he's close to 90 if he has that many scouts at a game.

I think the poster was referring to Greenup's pitching staff, not Planck.

Oh gotcha. Just had me a bit confused for a second. :thumb:

The scouts were there to see Planck which was low to mid 90's. The thread is about Greenup not Planck. Greenup pitchers throw around 80.

4 Sr , 2 Jrs , 3(So) start , with 2 SR , DH . And a( So) who has been pitching some lately. Team has 7 HRs , 6 different players, (Sr) catcher Brody Shoup (Morehead) has 2. Last years team had 2. So power is up this year. My OP the best Middle in the state, Catcher - Shoup , SS Gage Hughes (So, Verbal Cincinnati ) 2B- So , Kyle Gammon and Centerfield Sr - Jared Hunt ( Morehead or Marshall ) . Batting line up is tuff 1-9 , lots of speed. and #9 (So) Isaiah Green is batting around 500. #6 (Sr) Christian Wireman is around 400. So the bottom of the line up is solid. Pitching is lead by (Jr) Tristan Downing ,(Sr) Zack Hayden ,(Jr) Jackson Keeton , (Sr) Christian Wireman . Downing pitched the West Jess and Beechwood wins. Zack Hayden was really good at State last season, and is throwing harder this year. Any thing I missed Oldercoach just ask , I will try to answer.

Guess Greenup Co. doesn't have many BGP followers. No traction on this thread. Today Musketeers maintain their #1 rating in USA Today with Central Hardin #2. LexHerald poll reverses the order this week with #2 Greenup Co. to Central Hardin #1.

USA Today has Greenup #3 in Midwest only KY school in the top 10. There are many Followers on here , is there something else you would like to know about the team. Rankings are nice to look at and talk about, but winning games is what matters. So getting all excited about #1 or #2 is what, it is. If your not Playing in the last game of the season, the rankings don't mean much. The winner of that game is #1. That's the one that matters the most.

Couldn't agree more with you, X's and O's. We just don't hear much about you guys here in NKy and it is obviously our loss. Great story going on by Musketeers, and we don't know your players, and offensive stats, and any info on your pitchers. Sure hope weather allows you guys to have a good tournament this weekend. Hope Beechwood has #1 ready to go tomorrow. Could be a really good matchup, hopefully.

Beechwood is a really good team, they won 2 game`s in Greenup this week, Vs 2 good Ohio teams. Much respect for BW - Greenup game was not what I would have guessed. But you cant always Pitch your #1 , BW has other good pitchers, as does Greenup. Would #1 Vs #1 be a better game ? who knows. The thing I seen (Player`s) and herd from (Fan`s) I talked to , that shows a top notch program. The Players played hard the hole game , and the fan`s didn't make excuses. And Greenup didn't pitch #1 either .
