Let's face it, kids quit for all kind of reasons. The biggest reason they quit IMO is they do not want to put in the time. I think the frosh team now does a pretty good job of getting everyone a taste of the action. Some thrive in it while others just go through the motions. The sophomore year is and always will be the toughest IMO. A young sophomore may be battling an 18 year old senior. Big difference physically and mentally. Some accept that challenge and some do not.

Very few Sophomores have started varsity for the Birds, but it has been done.

I think the question to the younger players is, "how bad do you want to be part of the program"?

Some of what we are talking about I believe were reasons why talk of making cuts in the football program got started. Again, I will reiterate that the coaches at the frosh and jv levels do a really good job of getting everyone involved one way or another. Kind of a reward for putting in the time. At the varsity level, it is much much different.
