April 21, 201610 yr I don't know exactly how to incorporate it, but I think we need something akin to a runoff primary. That way you can narrow the field down to 2 for a spring primary, and then the party's ultimate choice will at least have won a majority, unlike right now, which is just a plurality.

That way you can narrow the field down to 2 for a spring primary, and then the party's ultimate choice will at least have won a majority, unlike right now, which is just a plurality. Theoretically that would work — you could have state-by-state runoffs staggered in the winter/spring, do a proper primary in August and general election in November. Problem becomes, of course, the expense of putting on an extra election each four-year cycle.
