Star Trek DS9

Featured Replies

When this show first came out at the tail end of the run of Star Trek: The Next Generation, I had a hard time with it. Mostly, it wasn't TNG or the original series, which was totally unfair on my part.

I am going back and addressing my unfairness, and totally loving that I was wrong the first time around.

I love that it introduces new aliens, and further fleshes out the stories behind other alien races that were only glossed over during TNG — the Ferengi being an obvious one, along with the Bajorans and Cardassians.

My hardest thing to get over was the fact that Hawk was now a space station commander. :lol2:

We're they bubble butted gold diggers? I'm assuming this is an old world or alternate spelling of the name.

If you like DS9 you should try Babylon 5. Similar concepts, on during the same time, and I am fairly certain that they took cues from each other on many idea. For my money I liked B5 better because I liked it's self contained story and the main series cast was absolutely fantastic. The special effects being early 90s CG look a bit dated, but when you take that into account it is pretty good if you can get past the first season. Of course Season 1 of TNG and DS9 were both kinda iffy anyway.

I tried with B5 but could never get into it. I guess I was too much of a Star Trek loyalist.

Well, the Cardassians appeared in the Star Trek canon well before 1994, so I'm thinking there's no real tie there. :lol2:

Kardashian to Cardassians isn't that big of a jump...I can see the current set evolving to the DS9 version very easily with a few bad surgeries.

Season 1 was really rough, but had a couple of amazing episodes. Seasons 2-4 were when it got really good.
