Owen County 66 Henry County 54 (31st District Championship)

Finals

Owen looked like a state title contender for about 14 minutes tonight, leading 39-17, before a mini run by Henry Co at the end of the half cut the lead to 41-23 at the break.

Then, the next thing you know, a rugby match broke out. Henry Co, behind some hot three point shooting (plus, Owen Co went totally out of sync on offense) had cut the lead to 49-40 after three quarters, and then got as close as 54-48 with about 5 minutes to go before Owen hit some FTs and made some stops down the stretch to pull out the 12-point win.

Impressed with Henry Co's grit tonight, they had every reason to pack it in during the Rebels blitzkrieg in the first half..I am sure all of the 8th region district title coaches who were in Warsaw tonight probably aren't as enthused about picking out that Henry Co pill as they were thinking earlier in the evening.

I also thought this would have been a bigger margin. Sounds like it was a battle. OC is still my pick in the 8th.

I said earlier in the week if they stay from 29th winner they could win a game in regional. Last night confirmed my belief.

Good luck to both teams next week, Henry brought a different level of physicality in the second half, that seemed to temporarily frustrate Owen.

It amazes me that the 8th region officials allow the game to get so physical. I'm all for tough play, but when players are getting hit in the face, shoved, thrown to the ground, they have to step up and do something. It's happened in multiple postseason games I've seen so far.

I agree, been a long year for 8th region officials.
