Pregame, Mid Game and Post Game Traditions

Featured Replies

What are some pregame and postgame traditions at some of the high schools across the Commonwealth? Like a pregame walk up, running through a fog machine to a certain song, student section sprinting to their seats, etc. And no, saying winning at schools like Mayfield, Trinity, Highlands does not count.

For example, I don't know if they still do it, but Covington Holy Cross used to have a "bucket band" parade before the homecoming game. Students marched from Holy Cross down to Holmes (about a mile long walk) hitting buckets through the neighborhood and throughout the game

Sadly, some activities have dies off due to stricter punishment by school administration. Times have changed from when I was in high school.

Cov Cath at Beechwood.

Crazies get on their Scottish Highlander gear and march @ a mile down Beechwood Av to the Stadium led by an authentic bagpiper.

"school spirit" has died down at a lot places because people are offended easily and it's not ok to yell at the other team in fear of hurting little johnny's feelings. It's good to see that CovCath still has the crazies though.

Any programs do a pregame player walk? I saw Cincinnati Moeller do it a few times and Bishop Brossart, i know their players walk from the school to CCMS

Ashland has always done a pre-game player walk. There are paw prints up Elm St. beside Putnam Stadium that the players walk to the main entrance of the stadium. Then walking through the crowd, we'd make our way the the steps leading down to the field. We would wait on the steps during the coin toss, then as the captains walked toward us we'd come on to the field in the center of the end zone. The PA guy would would announce, "Here come the Tomcats" while we ran on to the field toward our sideline. It's still exciting, even late in to my 30's, to watch them come on the field.
