If anyone thinks that the LC football program is just another football school on the river is sadly mistaken. A lot of pride go into the sweat and effort that the players put out everyday and the town and community notices this. GO DAWGS!! When the bark and bite comes back around to LC then LOOK OUT, this town will be buzzing and so will the football team.

We here at Raceland know your program & tradition very well. As oldrambler stated we sure had some battles in the past. I sure did not like playing on the old football field though, man that was bad. I was always to tired to have to run to the other end of the field after scoring just to kick our extra point.(LOL) just having a little fun,. Your new field is great by the way.:thumb:

Thanks for the great compliments, whenever I am not rooting for LC I try my best to keep up with Raceland because they are my 2nd favorite team in this area. Many a battle that LC and Raceland have had and if LC isnt playing on a Friday then I try my best to make it to RAM country.:ylsuper:

I think thats the funniest thing I have heard in a long time.

That is how we Raceland alumni make sure the program stays together. We plan for the future!!;)

Great post! LC has a lot to be proud of and I see a lot of talent on the field this year. The LC pride runs deep and LC fans are second to none (and I don't mean those fair weather fans either). I know those boys are just in awe when they take the field in a varsity game for their first time. It is an experience that many of those mentioned in the initial post have not been able to recreate no matter where they are at, and I am sure that they rememer those days fondly. The game where we beat Brethitt is one of the best games, if not the best game I have been to. It was a classic. It was and remains classic Lawrence County Football! :ylsuper: :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

We would be glad to have you in Ram Stadium anytime!! We also appreciate your support and hope that you have been treated fairly while in Ram country.

I have had the pleasure of being in some of those battles many years ago. I also had the pleasure of being in a Deer Camp with one of your former coaches (Luke Varney) I always enjoyed talking football with him about those battles. Some of the former players were there also.

Everytime I have been in Raceland for football or just to get gas I have been treated with respect and I enjoy being in the town of Raceland. Great town with a great program in all athletic fields. Whenever I can catch the white and orange playing football or whatever I try my best to be there and support them. I bleed red and black first off but secondly I bleed white and orange and support the Raceland Rams. A lot of good talent has come from there and I hope to see the town as well as the athletic programs continue to do well. I guess in one breathe what I am really trying to say is " GO DAWGS AND RAMS" lol:thumb:

Stick1, outstanding post. :thumb:

LC is probably the Best program without a state title to its credit, but that doesn't discourage LC fans everywhere. I know that they enjoy watching the kids year after year that step on that field. Plus the kids enjoy playing in front of what I call the "Best fans in KY".

I remember watching all the games from the sidelines in the 80's when LC had talent but could not get over the hump. Then in 1990 the undefeated season was the turning point for LC football. In 1991 I know about 500 fans hopped on several chartered buses in Louisa the day after Thanksgiving at 5am and made the trek to Mayfield where they was as much as 30 point underdogs. And as stick1 mentioned they lost 21-18 missing all of their extra points which IMO has been the Achilles heal for the LC program.

But standing there and talking to some people from Mayfield area, they said that LC was the hardest hitting team they have ever seen and that has been their trademark ever since.

Then as the next season came around I started broadcasting LC football for the local radio station and continue that through 2001. I have seen some outstanding games and players that have donned the LC jersey. I even had a wireless microphone and ran onto the field after Breathitt Co. game hugging my cousin (BJ Nelson) and Jason Michael and screaming into my mic.

I know one game I remember that LC lost and it was against what I consider one of the classiest programs in the state, I am talking about Raceland High School. The game they won in the early 90's was 3 -0 . One of the best games I had seen in all my years broadcasting. So when you all say LC- Raceland that rivalry brings back alot of memories on Friday nights. And IMO it was one of Best Rivalries in the state and hopefully one day they can play again, maybe next season when the 6 classes come in to play.

I would like to say that I didn't start this thread to put any pressure on the kids playing there right now especially knowing that there is some youth there that is going to get better with experience. I do want them to know that everytime they put that jersey on they are representing a proud tradition though and the guys that played there keep up with them every weekend no matter how far away they live!

I also would like to point out that I listed guys that played college ball in that thread. It has meant just as much if not more to a lot of guys that didn't get to play college ball! Right off the bat I think about several brothers that are over fighting the war right now! That is not to take away from the most important aspect that this program has built for smalltown America.... the bond of brotherhood and lifelong lessons we learned from being a Bulldog.

I helped work a camp a few weeks ago where former players came back and worked with the youth on football skills. All the ex players came in and worked the camp for free. All the $$ went to the youth league for better equipment. Also helping the ex players as assistants were current players. To see the ex players (guys that are in the professional world with kids etc) come back for free bonding with players there now and too see these guys sharing, laughing, teaching and having fun is what this program is all about. There was about a 14 year age gap with the youngest and oldest ex players there and you would have thought we played together. After the golf tournament Sat there were about 25 past players that sat up until six in the morning catching up on old times.

I know personally the goal setting, committment, organization, motivation, relationship building, networking, communication skills, teammwork, drive etc that I learned as a Bulldog has guided me in life. I also know that the bond of guys that have been there knows no boundries. I spent the day golfing with old teammates that were in town ( I live 2 hours away and one was in from Jacksonville). I later went out to eat with two other teammates. It has turly built lifelong friendships (brothers if you will). I'm not saying that LC is going to be a world beater this year but I am saying right now that it is a special place with special people and I wouldn't trade growing up there and being a Bulldog! I would love for the guys that are there now to be able to experience what it's like when that program is on a roll. I tried to tell some of the younger guys that it is much like being a Rock Star! Autographs that small kids want, the chicks dig you and the town LOVES you!

That pretty much sums it up right there. Everyone giving 110% from the youth league coaches up to the high school ranks. LC football true and true, never stops and knows no limits.

Stick1 , if every hs football fan had the Pride and passion for the school as you do, Ky. football would be on top of the world. :thumb: Keep on doing what you are doing and it will become contagious. The community & the players of LC athletics should be proud. Great post!!!
