Mercer vs Somerset Scrimage

Featured Replies

Kyle Moore has been a part of the Jumper secondary for 3 years now and it is really starting to show because of his play and leadership.

Not a great game for either team. I have seen the Jumpers play better football. On the other hand I have seen them not play as good as they did last night. A lot to work on with the outside rush. Mercer consistantly gained yardage on the outside. The inside defense was great for the Jumpers really attacked the line and moved them back. The Jumpers on offense looked sharp at times the big thing was turnovers. I think if both of these teams continue to work and get better they will be one of the better teams in there district.

Yeah, once again he was noticed. He has that football mentallity. You gotta love that. The rest of the team has to feed off of that. I don't see that with our team right now. We've got several candidates, but most of these guys are still unfamiliar with each other. We have a few transfers who are new to the area. We got a FB/LB from Texas. He is 6'2 220 lbs. They said he won the Texas powerlifting State Title in his weight class last season. He was #44 out there. But Mercer wore those practice jerseys that you couldn't see the #'s on the front, And they had no #'s on the back. I guess he played. Did anybody notice him out there? I know nothing else about the kid other then he is built like a truck from what i could see.

I was on the offensive line for the Jumpers but I didnt really pay any attention to the numbers of the opposing players.

Yep, we have alot to work on. But, we are a big unknown right now. Even amongst ourselves. Once this team finds itself then watch out.

IMO if their is going to be a year for Mercer Co. to really be a force to reckoned with, it will have to be this year.

Actually i like our district next season. We do lose alot next season. But anybody that knows the history of football in this area will tell you that we have had alot of D-1 players come through here. In 1996 Harrodsburg's entire front four were D-1 signees. Then there was craig yeast. In the last 10 years we have had 3 NFL draft picks. Jason Dunn of the Kansas City Chiefs, the man that John Madden calls the best blocking tight end in the NFL is from right here and entering his 11th season in the NFL. Mark Dunn (gained 2400 yards rushing in his sophomore season at harrodsburg) from right here is the starting running back at Eastern right now alongside Patrick Bugg at wide reciever. Dennis Johnson didnt end his career the way he wanted to but he was Gatorade defensive player of the year, 3rd round draft pick. In the mid 90's at one point Uk had two running backs on scholarship from right here. But like i said. this isn't just about recently, this area, especially Harrodsburg has had a rich tradition (80% winning % since 1990) since day 1. There has always been a lack of numbers. Now you combine that history of top notch talent with serious #'s, we will contend in 5A. 4A is much tougher from what i see. I know Southwestern is tough, but once we get our merged program settled in we will be fine. We have alot of talent with our freshman and sophomores. As you saw with 95 players yesterday that the kids want to start somthing special. And the fans know what this area of football has stood for. Mercer county hasn't had the big names but they have had some really good teams. They went through a drought in the early to middle 90's where they were weak. But that's when Harrodsburg was a force.

Yeah all we seen tonight from Mercer Co. was a wishbone look and a wing look. Our inside run defense was very good tonight but we had some difficulty stopping the outside run game, mainly jet sweep and quick pitch. Two of Mercers TD's were on broken plays where they came all the way across the field and then back.

John Cole did not play tonight for the Jumpers along with A.T. Hunter. A few people had to step up and play tonight for the Jumpers in places where they normally would not play. However their will be plenty to work on in the upcoming week and we are looking forward to having another scrimmage next friday!

Mercer NEVER got in the wishbone, only the double wing/ace backfield look.

My bad.

I think Mercer will be very good in the future, but I think it will be harder than most think to assume they will mesh quickly.

Nobody really knows much about the TITAN'S right now. You can't judge them from one scrimmage that's for sure. Everybody knows that they are to be speedy. These kids have known each other for a while. If they know how to play football then they will be ok. The big key is the offensive line. if they can block for these backs then you can forget about it. Once they get past the defense you aint going to catch them. But I'm just excited to see what they can do. It will be interesting.

Well, if we can't mesh then Boyle Co will sure exploit that weakness come September 15th. I hope everybody sleeps on this team. I truly believe we will take a few lumps through the first four games, but when district play begins i believe we will be ready to compete. I can't wait till kickoff! 13 days.
