Who in your opinion play the best defense?

well not like they used to, but in the 14th most teams back into a zone and you don't really get to see defense like they used to a while back, but sometimes the teams are behind and have to come out of that packed in 2-3 or 1-2-2 z0nes and actually press and run a little! much more exciting that way, but you do have to have the athletes to do it! As for best defensive team, JBS packed in there zone with the big 7'0'' kid back this year, they will make people shoot from the outside and we don't have many that will bring them out of it, other than maybe brandenburg from lee or hicks from hazard and sometimes the bailey kid from pcc!

 

As for best defensive player, i like the stacy kid from pcc to use guarding 1,2 and 3 men, the coach always seems to put him on the best player and he dogs them all over the court giving them a hard time and tires them out and forces turnovers. The Big kid from Buckhorn can play some defense too when he wants too, zack gay,i'm pretty sure his name is, he can run with anyone and block some shots too and is still getting better... Hubbard from leslie is quick but he is a little small and may get posted up in a man to man set, but in a pressing situation he would be a great chaser on someone too!

Lets extend this statewide for team defense only, but also lets have opinions on best M2M teams, best zone teams, best pressing & trapping teams etc...

I know in the past teams like Mason, Lex. Catholic & Ballard have been known for the pressing just as Christian Co., Trinity, and Tom Crews' teams have been known for their man2man. Lets hear some on this. Narrowing it down to only one region didn't leave much room for discussion, but now it is wide open. Not just this coming years teams, but year after year also.

Hazard was the only team in the region to play any D last season, and they are returning Matt Williams the best D player last year. Justin Hicks isn't that bad on Defense as well.

The kid is one of the top 2 or 3 defenders in the 14th region. If you have seen him play then you will agree & if you havent seen him play you need to. He plays extremly hard.

jbs has some good defensive players.

as individual players JBS doesn't have talented defenders, but as a team they work together well and their zone is one of the best around, especially when the big Collins kid is back in the middle! Stepp doesn't play defense because he wants to stay out of foul trouble and Cox is smart and quick, but is still a little small to guard some of the bigger and tougher kids in the region. They will stick with their zone and do really well this year!

I sort of agree with you. But both of the gaurds average several steals and Collins averaged around 3 blocks. An I have seen Cox play great defence in a box and 1

what kind of defense will the new coaches in the 14th bring to the region? ( Lively-Powell, Banks-Breathitt, Parrot-Owsley, Amburgey-Knott, Morris-Hazard?

I think June Buchanan will have the best defensive team after the return of Garrison Collins and also I hear they have had some of last years underclassmen that have shined in summer ball. They will have alot more size than last year which is hard to believe.

Several games I went to last year , it was kinda hard to tell wheather good defense or bad offense, a lot of mid or low scoring games but most the time seemed sloppy.
