January 28, 201610 yr Author The Virginia Tech game plan was roughly "barrel into the lane, see what happens, then fall down." It mostly worked. Unfortunately for the Hokies, it also wakened the slumping Trey Lewis, who had probably his best offensive game of the year with 22 points. Damion Lee led all scorers with 29. Jaylen Johnson with 11 and 9, a much-needed performance from him at the four in a game where our big guys really struggled with the foul-calling.
January 28, 201610 yr It was ugly and jaylen Johnson shot the worst looking free-throw in history. Besides the air ball Johnson played his best game as a card. Great shooting games by the two 5th year seniors help sealed the win.. If Louisville can win Saturday afternoon against Virginia they should be in the top 10 next Monday's polls.
January 28, 201610 yr When Lee/Lewis are hot and score 51 combined, I would normally think the Cards win by 20+. But man oh man, those fouls/free throws! Bet Pitino couldn’t get out of there quick enough. Tackle trap, it looked like Johnson hyper extended his elbow on that collision a few minutes before, which could have affected that free throw.

Yea I saw that but he no problem hammering down a dunk with that same hand when he got fouled.. It was humorous though.
January 28, 201610 yr Largely unwatchable -- particularly in non-HD here in NKy! Can't decide whether to blame the zebras or UofL players for not adapting their play to the whistle since it was called that way from the jump. Lean toward zebras as they made playing defense virtually impossible. If a player is unwilling to take charges until they stop calling them, there is no defense against someone who basically takes the ball out and drives to the hoop until they score or contact is made. For a 5:00 stretch Anas did a good job of blocking several shots without any contact to slow Va. Tech down. Other than that, it was "their frees v. our threes." Think you need to change the rules. On the 7th foul, you get 1&1. On the 10th foul, you get 2 shots. On the 20th foul, you still get 2 shots? WTH? On the 14th foul, give the coach the choice between the old ABA 3 to make 2 OR the ball out of bounds. Lee was on from the beginning. You could tell it. Wanted the ball and the shot. Lewis shot confidently in the 2nd half and was a huge boost. If he gets his legs under him in ACC play, they will be tough. Snider & Mitchell were unremarkable but made some decent plays. Nanu was invisible due to foul trouble. Anas played well and continued some of the momentum from Ga. Tech on both ends of the floor. Fouls eventually caught up to him as well. Stockman was a huge force at the end of the 1st half. Rick was out of bigs and had no choice but to go to him. He responded and played above his pay grade. Johnson was good. Not sure you want him shooting open 3s, but he had good form and swished it. Thought his arm / wrist was broke when I saw it in slo mo. Glad he came back. (That FT, though.) Adel DNP in this game with the foul situation is not a good sign for his development this year. He did appear to be enthusiastic on the bench though. Hope he doesn't sulk.
January 28, 201610 yr You can't make me watch that again. I won't. 54 fouls. 72 free throw attempts. You should have been at the Mason County-Scott game a while back. Makes this one look like the stripes "let 'em play". 74 fouls, 92 free throws. In a 32-minute game. Ugh.
