Biggest problem with Beard is that he's a high school guy, only college experience was this year at Miami. Nothing wrong with that, but some may question it. He's not very old so this isn't like some of the others that have moved on to college. He was brought to Miami to recruit. Still played at the U and had a cup of coffee in the league. Doesn't seem to be a bad coach, but it should give some pause that Richt didn't keep him, even though Beard was closely tied to some of Miami's biggest recruits.
