Huge district win for the Indians!

GRC Reporter, where are you?

The Cardinals were without the services of Jenkins tonight. Tough loss for the Cardinals as they fall to 8-8 on the season and 1-2 in 40th District action.

Just got in from the game. Great night of basketball. Ate at Cracker Barrel before the game. As usual with a big rival game the place was electric. GRC girls won 65-52. Final score was closer as GRC led with larger leads during the game.

The boys game was a tale of 3 quarters. Both teams neck and neck after 3 quarters. GRC jumps out to the early lead but MoCo settles down and takes the led right at the end of the 1st quarter. End of 1st 12-13 MoCo. Halftime 27-29 Moco. End of 3rd 42-43 Moco. In the 4th. GRC missed some crucial lay ups and MoCo's Walker hit some crucial 3's. Also GRC did not hit well from the foul line. Make those and it could have been a didn't outcome.

My favorite part of the game was when the game was over and Jerryd Jones...which played at GRC for the last two previous years and now plays for MoCo, and James Cornelius, hugged each other. Rivals and also friends.

The difference in the game was not the free throws in the 4th quarter as GRC was only 0 for 2, whereas Montgomery County was 4 for 6. For the game, GRC was 6 for 12 and Montgomery County was 9 for 11. This does not account for the 11 point difference (21 to 10) in the 4th quarter.

The difference in the 4th quarter was rebounds. GRC had 5 rebounds in the 4th quarter. Montgomery County had 12 rebounds in the 4th quarter!

Too many "one and done" shots in the 4th quarter for the Cardinals.

Would Jenkins made a difference? bottom line they just better and balanced.

Defense and rebounds win ball games.

I like the way the Cardinals played for 3 quarters. The beginning of the 4th quarter was when the Indians took off and created a double digit lead by going on a 15 to 6 run. The score was 58-48 with 3:42 remaining in the 4th quarter. GRC clamped down and kept pace, but it was not enough.

I look forward to the rematch in 2 weeks at Clark County.
