Highlands 44 Bishop Brossart 39 Frosh

Featured Replies

Minus 2 starters Austin King and Alex Starkey the Birds take the road win.

Aubrey Posey filled in great at the guard spot today, huge steal and assist to Grady Cramer late to go ahead by 4. Cramer had a fantastic last 2 min. Hit a huge 3, bucket off Posey assist and 2 Ft to ice it.

Stangs have some 3 point shooters and are very disciplined.

Did Duffy play with the Brossart freshmen team?

No he plays strictly JV. They needed him desperately.

BTW I mistakenly said Posey made a steal and assist earlier, Cramer actually stole the pass and gave it right to Posey. Cramer B lined for the basket and Posey hit him with a nice dime. Cramer was key in the last 3 min to spearhead the Birds win.

I thought it was a good freshmen effort from both teams.

Ben Franzen does a great job with his greenies.

Mustangs within a bucket with 1:12 left in the game. Highlands comes up big in the final minute.

Good to know then it was an evenly matched freshmen game. Highlands missing a couple of players and Duffy playing up for Brossart means the players on the floor were matched up pretty well skill-wise.

I thought the officiating was pretty good ad well. I have seen a few freshman games this year and it has been downright pathetic but the 2 man crew working yesterday did a great job.

One other notable...Birds coaching staff consists of one longtime 9th Region referee Ernie Liggett.

It was great to spend some quality time with Ernie yesterday at both Brossart and then again at TMC.

IMO Ernie was the best "preventative" official that I have ever seen work a game. He would talk players out of fouls and violations, which led to a more high quality product and a learning experience for them, while playing the game.

Ernie made a couple of valid observations yesterday.

1) "These guys (today's officials) don't have any fun"

2) "It shows that they don't have the training that we had." He stated that during the Bud Moore, Dick Urlage, Tom Hummel, Tom Freppon, era, they started training in May with hands on, in the gym training. Now guys fill out an online form, pass a book test and get a patch.

I agree that for a freshmen game those two did a good job. They also drove over 80 miles to get here to do a single freshmen game. We appreciate that.

If that's what Ernie said about today's training he is 100% incorrect.
