The Breds survive a scare from the visiting Tigers from Bellevue tonight up on the "hill", and had Bellevue converted better at the FT line the outcome could have been very different.

The last time I saw this bad of shooting and fouls by both teams was the Norte Dame at NewCath game 2 years ago, and if you remember that game it was something to see.....or not.

 

Both teams had difficulties getting the ball to go through the cylinder from all points on the floor, especially from point blank range......it was just CRAZY!!!! I will say, both teams hustled their rears off, and I was really impressed with how Bellevue handled things.

 

NewCath was up 11-2 with under 3:00 to go, before Bellevue put a run together to close the gap at 13-9 after 1. Breds are up 19-10 with just under 5:00 to play in the 2nd stanza before Bellevue goes on a 9-2 run to close out the half, and it's NewCath 21-19. The Breds were in serious foul trouble midway through the 2nd quarter with Meg Martin, Ajia Rice, & Olivia Schalk all with 3 each. Then to make matters worse, Schalk picks up her 4th with :05.4 on a charge call.

 

Early in the 3rd, Lexy Breen goes down with an ankle injury and is taken to the trainers room, and she was done for the night. With just under 4:00 in the 3rd, Bellevue's Courtney Schmitz ties the game with 2 FT's , at 23's. However, on the next NewCath possession, Fr. Bryanna Bridewell gets the Breds the led back on a run-out basket. The next Breds score comes from Fr. Jalyn Vogt on a nice dribble drive move to the rack. The quarter ends with NewCath on top, 31-25.

 

Bellevue would get as close as 31-27 on a nice "dime" from Kira Ross to Regan Atwood early in the 4th. However, the NewCath freshmen take over, as Vogt and Kara Zimmerman hit clutch shots and FT's down the stretch.

 

Big tip of the cap to Bellevue head coach Tommy Sorrell and his Tigers, they gave one hell of an effort tonight, and Jr. Courtney Schmitz put on one hell of a show tonight, very impressed with her game. :ylsuper: Also, great job by the 3 NewCath Frosh, Bridewell, Vogt, & Zimmerman. :ylsuper:

NCC Frosh grow up in a hurry with no Davenport tonight in a District game. NCC center in foul trouble all night and fouls out early in 4th. NCC lost another starter to ankle injury in second half.

 

Bellevue had every chance to take the lead in second half. Just could not get on top. Bellevue will be tough in Division III play.

Any word on Breens ankle? Hate injuries!

No, she was in Philly for the Army/Navy game (being played today), her brother is a West Point cadet. I believe it's the only time they will get to spend together for the holiday season.
