Sounds like it was a great game from the Twitter updates. OHS lead most of the game but give the Dragons credit for making the plays to put it into OT and win by 2. OHS is super young and the young Devils have lost their last two after leading. It's a learning process but I like this OHS team.

Back and forth game early on, but Owensboro got out to as much as a 10 point lead in the second quarter before settling in for a 6 point lead at the half. The third quarter was marked by Central chipping away at the lead until taking a brief 3 point lead at 51-48, before Owensboro pulled back ahead to close the quarter. The entire fourth quarter was tight, and Central never led, only gaining a tie at 66 all, which took them into OT. In OT, neither team scored the first two minutes, and the game winning layup was the only shot Central hit, getting their other three points from the free throw line.

 

Jacoby Harris was the best player on the floor, pouring in 29. He was tough for the Dragons to stay with most of the time, but did lose two key turnovers to Tristen Murray during the fourth quarter when Owensboro was trying to bleed the clock. Bowman led Central with 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Murray added in 14.

 

A lot of the game was very, very sloppy, especially the first half. The two teams ran up and down, up and down, up and down, but often turned it over again and again. It was actually quite comical early. I counted at least 3 balls that went off of a player's head. There was carrying, throwing the ball away, etc. I think both teams are very athletic, but it is a lot of raw talent at this point. From a Dragon perspective, I still see a lot of settling for three pointers. When the game was tied and they were holding for last shot, Milliken threw up a three with 17 seconds left, which Murray thankfully rebounded to set up the game winning play. The Dragons ran a lot through the post of Bowman and Moss, but there wasn't a lot of driving. They still don't have the inside out game going that marked the Riley years, a big reason why I don't think the three point game is as effective. Owensboro drove the lane well, but had quite a lot of difficulty finishing.

 

The score implies a great game, and it was certainly entertaining, but both teams will view this as a teaching moment and look to iron out the litany of errors.

Sounded like a good one, thanks for the review Dragon. Sounds like much of what i saw from Owensboro vs Daviess County. A lot of pure athleticism, but not a lot of varsity experience for the Devils. They really get after you with their speed. Wins have been hard to come by but once they settle in, i think they have a ton of potential.

Owensboro really struggles when they try to bleed clock. OHS may need to spend some time working on swinging the ball. It seems when OHS try's to bleed clock they get very stagnant and usually wind up turning it over.

 

I can't wait to see how both teams matchup with Christian County.

We still film, but no broadcasts. When The Sporting Times stepped up to do audio webcasts of all games, we stepped aside from that part since that's a great deal that we couldn't come close to.
