But after other students complained, the school stepped in. Revere Superintendent Dianne Kelly says the district believes in freedom of speech, but cannot support what she calls insensitive language. "If you're going to stand up and say something that other people will find offensive, then you need to be prepare to deal with the ramifications of that," Kelly said. Caley's mother says her daughter who is the high school's head cheerleader is now banned from cheering for the rest of the season and doesn't think the punishment fits the crime. Kelley said, the school did not discipline Caley because of the tweet alone. But because of student privacy, she couldn't comment on specifics. "I would just say that, not everything you read is a full story of what's happening," Kelley told FOX25. Caley's mother told us the school decided to discipline her daughter because of the intense backlash. Because of this controversy, the school is now creating a group of teachers and students to come up with a curriculum about diversity and acceptance. November 30, 201510 yr The "privacy" angle keeps us from knowing the totality of the reasons used for her suspension. However, the school has the right to have rules about how their teams/cheerleaders handle themselves whether we agree with it or not. Stupid comment on her part. Lesson learned.

Now for my response: This is ridiculous that a school system will, once again, overstep its bounds and reach into the private world of a student. She didn't comment about the school, she didn't post it on a wall, she didn't exclusively broadcast her comments to only the school.... We don't know what else within the school may have contributed to her suspension, so I'll give that one up.. It does appear to be yet another case of jack booted administrators in a school system...and I'm going to go out on a limb and say liberal school system, interjecting their belief system onto a minor that they really should have no business being involved in. If part of the assignment is to have diaglouge about our political process, this would seem to be a great opportunity to do so, but instead we have a system sending the wrong message (albeit without all the information to help us decide, how convenient)

Allowing? And hopefully your organization isn't funded by any tax dollars...

I suspect it was blocked because the article references a "social media" and the filter is so poor it just automatically kills the page. I would like to believe it's not politically, just really, really weak IT security at the base level.

I'll assume that's a general "yes." Would any of these warrant suspension/removal from the team/club/activity? 1. Alcohol consumption at a party 2. Posting on FB that a teacher is ugly/fat/seems gay/having an affair. 3. Posting that Mexicans are stupid. 4. Posting that blacks are lazy. 5. Juan's parents are probably here illegally. Any of those warrant a punishment?
