lawildcat Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Way to go, Collin! (Link has video) Man With Down Syndrome Competes In Bodybuilding | The Southern Weekend Today’s Feel Good Friday comes to us by way of Evansville, Indiana, where a 22-year-old man proved his disability would not stand in the way of his dreams. WFIE introduces us to Collin Clark, who placed fifth in his class last week during his first bodybuilding competition, the Kentucky Muscle Competition in Louisville. What makes this young Southerner’s achievement worthy of our Feel Good Friday, is Collin has Down syndrome. Our sister station reports it was only a year ago that Collin was overweight and depressed. That is when he decided to change his life and become a bodybuilder, and the results have been nothing short of incredible. WFIE was there to witness Collin’s achievement, and to speak with those who cheered him on: “We’ve always been really close with Collin, he’s such a great kid. But to see this transformation in his physique, it’s so great for his health. He’s just done such an outstanding job,” said Tammi Hargett, Collin’s neighbor. Collin’s coach, Glenn Ubelhor, says Collin has made an awe-inspiring transformation. “The improvements in his cognitive abilities, his social skills, his diction has improved. And a lot of people have the misconception that bodybuilding is done out of vanity, or it’s self-serving, Collin has proved that is not the case,” said Glenn. Next up for this budding bodybuilder? Collin tells WFIE he will continue to compete, and has his sights set on the Arnold Classic. And the most fitting end to this story? Collin also brought home the prize for “Most Inspirational.” Copyright 2015 The Southern Weekend. All rights reserved.
