Boots on the ground on Syria

Featured Replies

Even though I have said for a long time that we need to be in Syria, you all do realize that this announcement only concerns fighting ISIS with special forces and has nothing to do the Syrian war? The reality is even with air power and drones, you still need boots on the ground.

BTW, we have had boots unofficially on the ground for some time now, as well as in Ukraine, and we still have them in Iraq.

Do you honestly believe this to be the whole truth?

Look at my last paragraph.

Take Russia out of the picture and I don't want to get involved. With Russia in the picture, I am nervous. Putin worries me, he is desperate and will not hesitate to take desperate action in world affairs.

Putin and Assad are using the same playbook. It makes them peas in a pod. It's an old tyrant's trick: eliminate moderate opposition and then say to everyone "See, it's either me or these totally awful people over here!"

Assad has spent three years eliminating all opposition that was dedicated to increased democratization of Syria. Now he gets to sit back and say to the world, "Look, it's either me, or it's ISIS. Make your choice."
