October 27, 201511 yr Kid was with a girl who was setup to sell weed to an undercover officer. Police pull in to make an arrest. Officer jumps out with gun pulled and kid starts to back up to get away. Officer fires twice and kills teenager. Officer yells "he tried to hit me." Dashcam video is just being released show that the driver did not try to hit the officer and the officer was never in danger of being hit. Charges will not be filed.
October 27, 201511 yr Author I'm not comfortable with police killing a kid who was driving away over a weed bust.
October 27, 201511 yr Author What rationale did they give for not filing charges? Vague. Said the video and reports were reviewed and case law was studied.
October 27, 201511 yr Author Video taken after other police arrived. Is it normal to wait 3+ minutes to administer CPR? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUFZ_la8jtI&feature=youtu.be
October 27, 201511 yr Author It was the local prosecutor who decided to not bring charges. The victim's family had filed a petition with the state Supreme Court to have her removed due to conflict of interest/being friends with the local officers in her district. I assume the state can take a look into it? Anyone?
October 27, 201511 yr Author Lieutenant Tiller’s lawyer, John M. Mussetto, said that Mr. Hammond had “rapidly reversed his vehicle toward Lieutenant Tiller’s patrol vehicle,” and that the officer had fired to stop the threat. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/08/us/questions-arise-after-police-kill-a-white-teenager-zachary-hammond.html
October 27, 201511 yr My first reaction is "over weed?" My second is that I think it's becoming increasingly obvious to the public that prosecutors' offices have a perverse incentive structure when it comes to police accountability.
October 27, 201511 yr Author My first reaction is "over weed?" My second is that I think it's becoming increasingly obvious to the public that prosecutors' offices have a perverse incentive structure when it comes to police accountability. Agreed and agreed.
October 27, 201511 yr This is the problem with the war on drugs. Why are we wasting resources for under cover bust of a teenage dealer.
October 27, 201511 yr Author This is the problem with the war on drugs. Why are we wasting resources for under cover bust of a teenage dealer. Technically, the dealer was 23 but...your point is correct.
October 27, 201511 yr Author This is the problem with the war on drugs. Why are we wasting resources for under cover bust of a teenage dealer. I should also say that the drugs are a sub-plot of this story. A kid was shot by an officer who either had a really bad memory or lied as to why he fired his gun twice.
October 27, 201511 yr I should also say that the drugs are a sub-plot of this story. A kid was shot by an officer who either had a really bad memory or lied as to why he fired his gun twice. Wouldn't the video trump the memory? Did the dash cam come out after they decided not to prosecute?
October 27, 201511 yr Author Wouldn't the video trump the memory? Did the dash cam come out after they decided not to prosecute? They released it when they announced they were not going to file charges.
October 27, 201511 yr Technically, the dealer was 23 but...your point is correct. I get what your saying. But this all ties into my point I've been making on this site for a long time. The war on drugs is dumb.
