I completely disagree that shut-outs are over rated. To keep a clean sheet against a good team it takes great determination, likely some very good individual defense, good concentration and a total team effort.

Listen to any professional coach's post game comments, almost EVERY time his team kept a clean sheet he comments on the importance of it.

I'll just wait over here now....by myself... lol.. fyi..out team had 9. We played some tough teams and some not so tough. I did notice Hopkinsville had maybe 12? Maybe more. They had very good defensive team. It's just hard to come up with defensive stats..saves etc since it's more subjective than goals scored. I think..maybe..possibly.... lol

No I am a fan of CCH my son has played with MANY of the boys from the team and I am proud to say that.

I have never put anyone's accomplishments down only supplying an opinion and stating facts. After all it's a kids game after its all said and done all that matters is that they had fun playing it for as long as they could.

 

I guess some of the comments don't sit well with me either...

 

If post #3 is not putting down their accomplishments, I would like for 1711 to explain what is meant by saying.... "That's not real impressive".

 

And I didn't give up a single goal this year, kept a clean sheet. This is what you said in post #6. I am not sure how to take this, based on you saying that your son has played with MANY from CCH, I thought you were a parent.

Who's top defense in the state?

The top 15 team defenses per KHSAA. Of the 8 remaining teams, it looks like three of them are on this list.

Henry Clay would be on the list too, if they reported stats. They've given up 18 goals in 24 games for a 0.75 GAA. They play the 8th toughest KY schedule based on AOS. I haven't seen Henry Clay play this year... does 6'5" UK commit Aime Mabika anchor their back line?

Bowling Green played the 5th hardest KY schedule based on AOS and only allowed one goal by a team outside of the Maher Top 20 all year. They lost six regulars from last year's title team including defenders Matt Higdon and Alex Ballard (who had a great game in last year's final). But they also return 9 who played in the title game including GK Ryan Hughes who is starting between the pipes for his third straight year. BG has 12 shut-outs on the year, including 7 of the last 8 games, so their defense looks like it's gelling at the right time of the year. BG is another team that I haven't seen play this year, but based on what they have back and how they've been doing I'd have to put them right there with CCH, Trinity and Henry Clay in terms of teams with top notch defenses.

What's interesting about that top 15 defense list is that all but Ryle & Belfry are in top 20 Maher Ranking. Most are in top 15.

 

8 of the sweet 16 teams that are on that defense list were paired against each other Monday night, so 4 were eliminated first round - all were close games. Mercer & Montgomery are solid for sure ... seen them play.

 

A solid defense can give you an opportunity to win, but you gotta be able to score. Look for HC to win it all. We'll see.

Covington Catholic has 14 shutouts this year.

Mercer County had 14 shutouts this year.

 

Hopkinsville had 13 shutouts this year.

Bowling Green had 13 shutouts this year (including a 1-0 shootout loss, but still counts).

Henry Clay has 12 shutouts this year (and likely to blank Perry County Central to make it 13).

KCD and Manual both had 11 shutouts in 20 games.

Belfry had 11 shutouts in 21 games.

Lafayette had 10 shutouts in 20 games.
