Trinity 63 Ballard 0

A group of kids from Trinity that "weren't the most talented" according to many people last year brought home State Championship #23. It will be a great day when the kids start getting the credit they deserve. Add 9 more wins to the school total, the 35th District Championship and #1 seed in a playoff bracket. First district championship since 2012.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are blessed with the best damn coaching staff in the state and one of the best in the country. But we have as many "talented" players as anyone in this city or state and if you choose not to give them credit then shame on you (whoever you might be).

Part of being an exceptional player is buying into what the coaches are teaching, commitment in the weightroom, in the classroom and out in the community (don't get me started on community service hours). This group of Rocks is just as talented as any we've seen over the past three seasons.

Meant zero disrespect toward the KIDS at Trinity. They assuredly are VERY good 'football players' even though they won't empirically have the number of D1 signees as they have on their past teams.

Shocked actually it was taken in any other way...meant only to emphasize how great a job their coaches do getting their very good kids to do what they know needs to get done.

I took it as this is not the most talent T team he has seen, that was the 2011 team.

Coach, please understand I'm one of your fans and often speak highly of you and your program. Was really pulling for you to get much needed respect in the preseason and even though I'm a T fan, I would have rather seen a competitive game last night.

This might be a good debate and I appreciate your feedback.

How do the kids expect to get anything when you get on message boards like this and talk about "not the most talented" and not many D1 players??? Our parents and our coaches try to do as much as anyone regarding college and press coverage. Just feel like it was a poor choice of words after gettimg beat 63-0. We sit back and listen to people all week talk about Q and Kash - different parts of the state talking highly about the top talent from different parts of the Commonwealth. Regardless of the team, seems like other parts of the state have much more respect for the players and market them with much more pride (especially fans from smaller communities). You would rather use words like "not the most talented" or not much D1 talent when 6-8 guys on our team are hearing from D1 schools or FCS teams. I'm just saying you could have hit a homerun by complimenting some guys that just beat your team 63-0.

Connor Carrico wasn't even covered last night. He has been a serious threat going all the way back to our state championship run last year. Because he is 5'8", he doesn't get the attention he deserves. I ask you - how big is Julian Edelman or Wes Welker? He dominated you guys last night and I wish more people would see the big picture. We have GREAT players but because they don't have 5 stars next to the name they aren't the most talented?

I look forward to watching our T guys climb that mountain again this post season. And can't wait to see many of them move on to college regardless of what people say about you.

Coach, I would never try to disrespect you and have a great deal of appreciation for what you do in our community - your dedication to Ballard and summer camps. Thanks for listening! I'm just a believer in what our kids are doing on and off the field at T - and I know for sure we have our share of talented guys that deserve a lot of credit (more credit than what they get).

He didn't play against the 2011 team.

He didn't play against the 2011 team.

Doesn't mean he never saw them play.

And I'm certainly not taking the comments from Coach J as an insult. I know he has a great deal of respect for the T program. Just tired of hearing this isn't the most talented team all the way back in the preseason. Not sure what people want with wins over Ensworth and Brentwood - blowout of a Lafayette team with 4-5 Division 1 players, ANOTHER win over St X etc...

Just hope the kids get the recognition they deserve when post season honors are announced like all district - in a district Trinity won by outscoring opponents 219-7.

The fact of the matter is that if you don't think this team is as talented as the 2011 squad then you agree that it isn't the most talented team. That doesn't denigrate their accomplishments at all, in fact it enhances it. It means they outworked, outschemed and outplayed the competition as a team and with their coaches. There are some very talented players on this squad, but unless you can honestly say they are as talented as the 2011 squad then they are, in fact, not the most talented team. None of that matters at the end of the day though, if the Rocks make it past Male and X in the playoffs then it will mean that they were the best team (not the most talented team).

Came on here to post respectful comments about T's coaches AND players after being taken to the woodshed. To say a team plays above the level of their aggregate talent is, I thought, one of the biggest compliments one could pay to both that team's coaches AND players.

Am very sorry it was taken as anything but a compliment. Rather than pick at nits, I'll go back to work on us and refrain from any further comments. Good luck the rest of the year.

Most of us took it as you intended Coach J.
