This is correct, the votes were tallied this past Saturday.

This makes no sense to me, explain how you completely take the most important part of the season, the post season out of the equation when considering who the best players awards should go to. ASnow (if he hadn't already) locked up the OPOY the year Vs St Henry last night during the Regional game, but this game had no baring in the voting, crazy.

Another example;

Last year S Rowland from S Oldham did not win the Miss KY award, complete farce. She dominated post season, almost single handily winning the State Semi final and finals. She had the lone goal in the semi final and all 4 goals in the finals. Yet she got zero credit for these performances in the Miss KY voting, what a joke.

I think it's to make sure votes are based on the regular season to give all players an equal chance. Ex: Wend from Conner is a good striker but only played one post season game. Why should he get less credit because his team failed to advance. Not saying I disagree or agree just putting it out there.

I watched ASnow a few times this season, he is probably the best finisher I've ever seen. I stepped away from the game for a bit so I'm sure I missed some really good players. Give this kid an opportunity to shoot and he will probably score. Didn't see last nights match but from these post he didn't disappoint.

This argument only holds water if you only take stats into consideration, which is the #1 problem with in this whole argument. As has been mentioned many, many times on BGP, stats can be very misleading. OPOY, DPOY, MR KY, Miss KY should be awarded to truly the best players in each category, not the one with the best stats. A big factor in determining this should be how the players perform against the best, when they are most needed, what they did to help their team win, etc. Are the 3rd and 4th goals some player scored in the third week of the season in an 8-0 blowout carry the same importance as the lone goal in a 1-0 win in a regional game?

Cooper did a really good job last night, and yes A Snow is an incredible player. With that being said, let's not forget the other team mates that showed up too. Goal Keep J Linder had some incredible saves, and the defense did a great job too. B Cornforth had some great plays as well. Praying that L Adams is okay to play Thursday. Hats off to D Cooper and T Workman as they had some great drives too. Well done Cooper Soccer!

You mean Cooper actually played with 11 players?

Oneperspective.....nice post to refocus

Nice call on this game. I really thought St. Henry would focus on making someone other than Snow beat them but maybe they tried. Would like to hear details.

I think that gpr had this one pegged, they seemed to focus on him every time he got the ball, including the header, he did only have 6 attempts. Their defense did have problems, IMO, and in fairness to St Henry... this was not a good match up for them.

Excellent take YC. I saw it the same way when I correctly predicted not only the upset but the score, "not a good matchup for them (St Henry)" is spot on.

Curious if Snow was playing up top or in center mid tonight? Given that performance I don't know that I'd disagree on the OPOY award.

Started out up top, once they went up 2-0 he dropped back into the midfield. I would say that he played a larger portion of the match in the middle.

I believe the state voting is after the state tournament. I was told by a coach on the state comittee that it was pretty much already determined Nemo was Miss Ky soccer before even walking into the room!! It seemed to me like Nemo last year played it safe and didn't put forth the kind of effort that we were used to seeing the prior years. This was probably because she didn't want to get injured since she had already signed with UK but that's how I saw it.

If this is true, it's just wrong. Being signed by UK probably enhanced her chances in voting coaches' eyes. This was one if the most unfair Miss KY votes in the history of the award. Rowland was by far the best female HS player in KY ALL year last year, she got ROBBED.

Just an example to give my reasoning for why this wouldn't be fair to all players is as mentioned, Wends season was cut short. Another example would be Morgan. The goal keeper for Scott recieved a red card directly before the first game of post season, and I think because of that, Morgan's and the rest of the Eagles season was cut short.

This isn't me saying I totally disagree or agree with your statement.

If this vote would take into account all of the games including post season then I would need to ask how anyone could not have voted for Treadway last season. He IMO is one of the top 3 best forwards to come out of NKY. He carried his team all the way to the state finals last season, scoring a hat trick against Trinity to put them in the final 4, then scoring the lone goal in the final 4 game. Who won OPOY last year? Chris O brien, great player, really helped his team have a good year, but if post season was into account, he couldn't compete because his team wasn't at the level as some of the other teams.

I believe what the coach said. His exact words were he walked in and it was. Nemo, Nemo, Nemo. He said there were a couple other girls brought up but most coaches just changed the subject back to Nemo. It is a shame that's how things are in voting for such prestigious awards like this! Nemo is a great player but I agree she wasn't the best player in the state last year.

I have been told by coaches the regional voting takes place the week of districts. Ballots are due that Thursday or Friday. The voting si done that way to place more emphasis on the entire season, and give equal chance to all teams and players within the region. Just like you stated Snow could have one the award last night, it is equally possible that someone wins an award for one game with a poor season if you let voting go throughout the entire play-offs.

I think many people are looking at this wrong. Remember the awards are for the kids. If more kids get recognized is that really bad?? Whether you agree with the system or not, we need to understand there is no right or wrong way to go about rewarding kids who work hard during a long season. This process has been in place for many years (my guess 15 to 20), so the coaches must be happy with the process, and they must seem to agree it is fair enough to reward the players. No matter when you vote or how you vote, just keep in mind the kids need to be the winners, and you will never have complete agreement on how the process should be completed, and whether you have the correct winners.

The state level voting does usually encompass the post season, but if I'm told correctly they do place a heavy importance on the regular season games also. There is something to be said for being able to consistently perform over an entire season, verse just showing up for a limited # of post season games (and lets be honest, not ever good player gets the opportunity to play on a loaded team like Covington Catholic is this year).

I would rather see the system the coaches are using than see no players being recognized.

Agree...but these are the same coaches that are voting for the Coaches' poll.....right?

So if only 2-5 coaches vote about an entire team, how do they become experts in naming individuals?
