Yeah, both defenses looked very good. Overall, Russell moved the ball a little better. Raceland's offense was hurt by the loss of Damon Black on Raceland's first offensive series. They moved the ball better in the 2nd half with #8 at QB, but couldn't punch it in the end zone. Both teams have some good looking young players.

Black had a couple of nice runs before leaving the game. Raceland had the ball inside Russell's 10 but couldn't score. After that, Raceland went with a combination of #8 and Judd Adkins at QB. I don't think Adkins attempted a pass but #8 completed a couple of nice throws. He also threw two INTs in the 2nd half.

 

Russell's DL was outstanding. Raceland couldn't pick up much on the ground. I'm sure losing Black took away a major running threat, but I don't think Russell gave up a run of more than 4-5 yards after Raceland's first series. Russell had numerous TFL.

 

Russell's TD came on a 20-25(not sure exactly) yard run by Nathan Brinkman. He made some defenders miss around the 5 and lunged into the end zone with a Ram on his back. QB Austin Church has a very nice arm, but his passes tend to sail on him a little bit. This was the first time this season that I've gotten a good look at him in person. He threw several good balls, including one that was dropped by Ryan Stump that had 6 written all over it.

 

I hope Damon Black's OK. He was helped off the field with an apparent foot/ankle injury and couldn't put any weight on it. He was examined on the Raceland bench before being carted away. I'd love to hear an update on him if any of you Raceland guys get some info.

If Black is out for a significant amount of time that could hurt at the varsity level, hoping Davidson stays healthy but how big of a drop off would it be from Davidson to 3rd string QB?

If Raceland's freshman team is any good at all, the Rams should even things up when they meet because Russell's freshman are a little down this year. That leaves the big boys to break the tie on October 30th. I can't wait. However, there's important district business for both teams to take care of first.

As for the bolded, Exactly ...Yes our game will be intense, both teams playing hard and hate to lose but after these next two weeks it may be good for both teams just to let go, play hard and leave it all on the field without losing playoff position / seeding. :thumb:
