Corbin Basketball

Featured Replies

Are both Bargo and Craig sophmores to be? The Bargo kid looks like he is probably 6-5, is he young enough to continue growing? Both of these kids have some athletic ability but, truthfully unless they made some quick improvement, I cannot see either of them playing much at Corbin. The Corbin 9th and 10th grades are simply loaded. I think there is a very good chance that Corbin starts two freshman and two sophmores this season.

Corbin will start 1 senior(Hamlin), 1 junior(Barley) and 1 soph(Crawford) in my opinion. The other spots will probably be filled by two of the following, Cashen(jr), Rogers(jr), Smith(soph), Manns(fr) or Johnson(fr). Lee Crawford(so), Wilson(fr) and Sewell(sr) will also see some varsity time. There are a couple of sophomores who could see playing time if they come out after football(Campbell, French).

I do not see how Coach P can keep Wilson off the floor. I thought he was one the best 2 or 3 point guards in the region last year. The Mann kid is also going to push for a starting spot. His touch in the paint is as good as anyone's in the region and he is very strong for his age.

I am surprised that French and Campbell are not going to play basketball. Both are fine basketball players and would contribute to any team in the region. I talked to Campbell a couple of weeks ago and he said he would like to play but he was afraid the hardwood would agravate his ankle.

Michael realizes that at his size(5'11" 230 lbs.)and strength(benching 320 lbs)with pretty good speed that football is his ticket and does not want hurt his foot again before football season starts. If he comes through the season healthy, he may end up on the court, though he will be behind from not playing this summer. French may be thinking the same way.

Manns stands a very good chance of starting, but he has to adjust to the size and speed difference between middle school and high school first, plus Coach P. will give some older kids the opportunity early to claim some playing time if they are capable. Wilson is going to be a good one, but he too has a learning curve to adjust to before he is thrown into the fire. It will take a little time for these two 14 year olds to get used to playing kids much older than they are, but both along with Johnson are special freshman.

I think Hamlin gets passed up this year...

I don't see that happening for two reasons.

1) Experience is often more important than pure talent, and being the only Sr, they'll need his on the floor leadership.

2) He plays hard with great effort. That's MORE important than pure talent.

Hamlin will start and play a lot of minutes.

I probably do know more about the powers to be at Whitley than most. Apex are you a Whitley, Wburg , or Knox fan? You seem to be interested in alot of Whitley things to be a Knox Co boy? I know you were interested in the Wburg basketball hire as well. Guess you are like myself and have diverse tastes and interests. :scared:

Basicly what it amounts to is that there is not a whole lot being said on this board about Knox Central right now, although I hope that changes. Back in the days of the old 50th district I was around these programs so now that we are not competing on such a close level I can support and be interested in those programs. But make no mistake I love my Panthers.

It does seem to get quiet when things are going well. How about a picture of the new gym to tide you over till football season?http://www.knox.k12.ky.us/news/20052006/May/openhouse/html/IMG_6708.html

Can't wait to see the Panthers take the floor. I know it is way off subject, but how is coach Elam and company doing this summer?

I heard KC boys were going to be playing in the old gym and the girls in the new gym is there any truth to that? If not KC middle will have one of the best middle school gyms around.

I was confused I thought you once mentioned you had a child that would be a Williamsburg Yellow Jacket, that led me to believe they were your team. Give Knox Central some time, I am sure Coach Elam will give us all something to talk about soon enough .....:thumb: if history repeats itself.

I've not heard that and really can't see any reason for it but stranger things have happened. Either way the middle school will have full use of the old gym, the old football field and the even older gym that was restored last year and will be used as a practice facility. Look for ground to be broken for the fieldhouse on the new campus any day now.
