52nd District final......I would like to add that this was the most horrible officated game I have ever seen. The 3rd base umpire took the game away from the Skins. I can recall at least 2 awful blown calls. Then to add to the fire, the homeplate umper threw out the bookkeeper from Cumberland because he was not wearing a uniform(which was simply the easiest person he could find an excuse to throw out) I would be embarrased for it to be known that I was an umpire for this game. It was Cumberland playing with 9 players, Middlesboro playing with 11.

Especially for just that reason. I'm sure said bookkeeper didn't do anything to draw the ump's ire, like cussing at him or griping incessantly about a call that went the perceived wrong way. Completely innocent, I'm sure.

When a team has 7 innings, that translates into a minimum of 21 at-bats and probably 21 opportunities to hold the other team. Not conducive to having the game taken away from them.

 

I personally didn't see the game but have been around enough to know, that there are usually 3 sides to every story.

 

1) Losing side

2) Winning side

3) Somewhere in the middle, the "actual truth"

 

Every coach must or personnel in the dugout, must be in uniform "IF" they leave the dugout and come out into the field of play, fair or foul.

I was at the game, and while I won't say that the game was "horribly officated", there were several close calls.

 

I am not sure of the reason why the bookkeeper was thrown out, he did get tossed after the coach was going out to argue the close call at 3rd base in the 7th inning.

 

Overall, give credit where credit is due, both teams played a heck of a game, and Middlesboro's Freshman Bret Pittman threw a 1 hitter. He had a no hitter going through the first 6 innings.

It was a good game, well pitched on both sides.

 

What angered the Cumberland fans most was a close play at third with two outs in the seventh inning and the score tied 1-1. The ball beat the runner to third as he went from first on a 6-3 ground out. I thought he was out, but I couldn't see if he actually tagged him. The winning run scored on a hit seconds later, so the play was very important in the outcome of the game.

 

I didn't hear the bookkeeper say anything to the umpire, and he didn't enter the field of play.
