One last comment before moving on to next week. Coach Rash's timeouts were very interesting in this game. I am sure many in the stands were wondering why he called his timeouts when he did. It looked to me like almost every timeout used by Coach Rash was a teaching moment timeout. He did not like the way his young players played a certain play so he called a time out and coached them up during the game.

 

For example, his first timeout in the game was on Lloyd's first or second posession of the game following an incomplete pass on 2nd down with Lloyd at their own 20. Rash called a timeout because he did not like the way his secondary played the pass, even though it went incomplete. His other timeouts were very similar, following plays where the defense looked out of sync or were not playing plays the way he wanted. It was interesting to see time outs used like that in a regular season game against a ranked opponent.

 

The best part was watching the team learn and adapt through the game to what they were being told to do and start making big plays (interceptions).

Overstreet and Hermes took turns making good blocks and being disruptive on defense. The Hermes sack really jacked up the defense leading to the interceptions. Overstreets motor doesnt stop.

Good win for BW, Slusher best player on the field by a large margin, maybe the best in NKY.

BW has some size on the line but not an abundance. Overstreet is not small. BW is usually conditioned and quick and will make a difference as the game goes along. The true test will be in 2 weeks when they travel to Ironton who has the size on the line that rivals a college team. On a warm night, the Tigers could have an advantage later in the game. At the HS level big does not always mean better. What comes into play more is when they play larger schools who have players they can rotate in on a regular basis. You do not see much of this in 1A, if at all. Let's revisit this after the Ironton game. By the way, Ironton has backs the size of some of BW's line.
