Cooper scored a couple early goals in this one and held a 4-0 lead at the half.

During the second half, both teams were able to put one in the net for the final margin of 5-1.

I thought that Calvary had a couple nice players on the field tonight, Rusch and Lockard. The Jags were able to keep Lockard off the score sheet for most of the night but he was able to break through and scored the lone goal for the Cougars with less than 10 minutes to go in the match.

OTB.... the second goal for Cooper came off a PK.

....

What am I missing? Why is this game scheduled?

It is a little curious to see a 6A school schedule a tiny school like this but maybe Calvary requested the game? This is why, when it comes to stat time/end of the year player awards, people look sideways sometimes at the stat sheets. Levels of competition vary so much.

Soccer is a different beast when it comes to the classes. I mean the state final the year St Henry girls won was a rematch of the All A state final. While I get the general point I think it is beneficial for all to play any school you can in soccer, for various, sometimes unquantifiable, reasons.

It is actually a great move for Calvary to try to play up as much as possible. If Cooper had a spot, and doesn't run up the score, and uses it for other than to "pad stats," then it could be seen as one program "giving back" to another, allowing them to have comparisons.

From Cooper's standpoint you don't gain much playing a very small school but opinions will vary on that so it's the coach's call I guess. Calvary certainly doesn't seem shy about scheduling larger schools so that's up to them.

There are certainly some small schools that regularly field good teams, no doubt about that. In general, with the exception of St. Henry, on the boys side in N. Ky. the small schools are just not that competitive. Some of the large schools are not either (Holmes) but most of them put pretty good teams on the field.

I disagree. Number one the allowed number of games played is very limited, each team needs to get the most out of each game. IMO a teams get little to nothing out of playing a far inferior opponent. Bothways you say "it is beneficial for all to play any school you can in soccer". Explain how CCH or Trinity vs a Covington Latin benefits either team.

While I get your point, and agree to an extent, as bothways mentions; classes are not always a good indicator when it comes to soccer. I can think of a few "tiny" schools in our area that are formidable opponents and more than hold their own against the bigger schools. For clarification purposes, in terms of enrollment, Cooper is not a 6A school.

It is my understanding that they are playing as part of a scheduling agreement between the schools. Having this type of match, during a week that has 4 matches scheduled, also gave Cooper the opportunity to play several reserves some considerable minutes.

Cooper is 6A for football right? Maybe they are playing up?

I can assure you, there was no attempt at breaking any scoring records. ;)

Humility for one.

For the "weaker" school it is the benefit of playing a higher quality opponent.

For the stronger it is the opportunity to relax after a more challenging game and possibly give non starters a shot to see what they can do in a less stress filled environment.

As I said it isn't always quantifiable.
