Pre Season Rankings Out

It's neither Highlands nor NCC that won't schedule Notre Dame, it's the other way around. Notre Dame is required to play both Scott and Campbell County for the conference.

Not this again. Where is this mythical conference? Are there standings? Is there a conference schedule? Conference champion? A website with all the info? I'm not buying it. Sounds like a convenient excuse to duck a tough game. "conference schedule" doesn't stop them from playing each other in Soccer/Basketball/Softball...

It's true. Most people don't know about it because it's not listed, but you are required to play teams in your "conference". Not to be confused with district and regions. I don't really understand why they do it, but they do.

So why do you think Notre Dame plays Simon Kenton, Dixie, Conner, Boone County and, up until 2 years ago, Holmes every year? Yes, there is a conference with three divisions, standings and plaques to the winners and everything! The conference also hosts an awards banquet at the end of the year to honor players and coaches of the year.

I imagine they play in basketball because ND doesn't feel the need to play as many Cincinnati and Louisville teams in basketball leaving some space on the schedule for local teams.

pretty sure ND and Holmes are in the same District and play every year.

They have a conference awards banquet for volleyball? I'm guessing they only give a few awards out if so.

I don't see Holmes on their schedule this season. You aren't required to play all the teams in your district but take it as a loss for district seeding if you choose not to play. It doesn't matter what seed Notre Dame gets for the district tournament. It's always been more important to play quality opponents rather than worry about their district seed.

From Holmes schedule last season on the KHSAA website....

Aug 28, 14 Notre Dame away (L) 0 - 2 (25-4, 25-7)

Holmes is not on the schedule this year.

Check ndavolleyball.com. ND at Holmes Wed Oct 7 2015.

I don't think the KHSAA scoreboard has been updated yet, and I often find it inaccurate. I prefer to go straight to the schools themselves for an accurate schedule.

That makes sense that they would still be on the schedule. Frankly I thought it strange they would not be. As far as the KHSAA website goes I don't know where the issue lies with keeping the info up to date but I agree something in the system is flawed.

Dixie JV/V scrimmages Boone tonight. Looking forward to seeing where we're at. Dixie will be young in spots this year. Our freshman team looks good compared to years past. I think they will do pretty well this season for a change.

Any reports from Notre Dame/Ursuline on Sat? I understand Morgan is still out playing for USA but curious how they stacked up against one of Ohio's best programs.

Surprisingly the scrimmage was fairly even. Boone County won the first two sets 25-24 26-23 and tied the third at 12-12 as time expired. In all three sets Dixie led most of the way before Boone battled back to take control. Dixie's JV team won their portion of the scrimmage IMO, with several bright spots. On varsity BC had several players who did well. Their setter and outsides mainly offensively. Defensively they were pretty scrappy but like Dixie have a few holes to fill in the back row, which is expected at a scrimmage.

For Dixie the biggest surprises were Senior Setter Emma Alkofer and Sophomore DS Alex Englehard. Both played very well. Alkofer got some limited time on varsity last year, but it was obvious she's put in a lot of work during her club season. Metzger and Long remain the offensive focus, with both playing 6 rotations, but Long has switched to Middle Hitter due to a lack of depth at that position. Jr. Bella Sizemore will assume the L2 duties, and was very solid defensively. In her first varsity foray at Middle Blocker I thought 8th grader Irene Wogenstahl did a good job overall of adjusting to the speed of the game in HS. This kid has a huge upside, as do several of the younger players at Dixie.

I think a good test happens soon when Mount Notre Dame and Notre Dame Academy meet.

MND - #1 in Ohio, #13 in nation (MaxPreps)

NDA - #2 in KY, #12 in nation (MaxPreps)

Likely the biggest match of the year in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area.

It was the biggest nky/cincy matchup last year and it was 3-0 MND and only mildly competitive.

I can't find a more competitive match between higher ranked teams. MND and NDA both play Ursuline. Maybe MND is just that good.
