C'mon, Jim and herd... stop beating around the bush and tell us how you really feel about the KHSAA sanctioning a "state championship" in beer , er..., I mean, slow-pitch softball.

I can't help it. It just flabbergasts me that these schools would hold on to this "sport" that is more appropriate for people who look like me than 16-year-old girls.

They were probably more schools participating in fencing than girls slow pitch. The KHSAA ended fencing competition back in the '70s. I remember Oneida Baptist won the title a few times.

My mom played fast-pitch softball in middle school and HS in the '50s and '60s growing up in Iowa. I remember how floored she was that they still played beer league when I was in HS in the '80s, and she thought I was lying when I told her a few months back that high schools in NoKy were still playing this ridiculous "sport" designed for overweight 35-years-old and up men to be able to recapture past glory.
