Franklin-Simpson 2015

Featured Replies

What does Franklin Simpson need to do to improve in 2015? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

How is F-S going to stack up against the Warren County teams they have to play in-district? Is F-S ever going to be as consistently competitive as they were in the late 70-s through mid-90's or have those days just come and gone for the Wildcats?

And, by consistently competitive I mean knocking on the door of being the best team in the BG area as they were in the late 70's through mid 90's. They were highly competitive with Bowling Green, Warren Central, and Russellville who all fielded great teams and made multiple finals appearances during that time span.

That was a great era in F-S football. With two NFL players on a couple of those teams it would be hard to match that success level. F-S played for the State Championship just 3 or 4 years ago as well.

They sure did and Tim Schlosser did an amazing job as head coach there with not near the talent of his two predecessors in Rollins and Mathews. I just ask because maybe Bowling Green just has that much better of a circumstance than any other school in that area now, but back in that time period I mentioned Franklin-Simpson and Russellville could play with the top Warren County teams pretty much every year. I remember in 1991, BGHS had a Mr. Football finalist and was upset by an F-S team that forced a 3-way tie for 2nd in the district. F-S ended up 4th in the standings after the tie-breaker and BGHS would go on to win the region that year. The games featuring BGHS, W. Central, F-S, and Russellville were always contests where anything could happen. In some years, you could put Glasgow in the mix, but they weren't as consistently at a high level as the other four were. I know Central is supposed to be dropping off and Russellville has lost so much in enrollment over the years although Myers has kept them competitive against other small schools. I just didn't know if F-S (since it is the only school in the county and has always had tremendous support) could get back to that. It seems to me that if anyone can do it then it would be F-S.

Central is indeed dropping off, but South Warren is stepping in to fill that gap. The Wildcats will do just fine with those types of teams though. There will be years they'll be better, some years they won't. Franklin-Simpson has some good talent coming up, but I don't see much evidence that they're going to get back to being able to compete with Bowling Green High. And in all honesty, how could anyone accept that they could when they refuse to play them?

No school in this area is prepared to go toe to toe with Bowling Green, and really, no one has been able to consistently for the past 13 years. And that's not going to change any time soon. BUT, fortunately for Franklin-Simpson, that's not the team they've got to worry about as in a six class system they will never, ever, ever, be in the same district again.

Didn't Franklin lose quite a bit to graduation last year. I know they lost one of their best lineman and running back. What do they have to replace those guys?

South Warren will be the team from all indications.

F-S lost its QB, but has a junior QB who may prove to be even better. He played anywhere they could get him on the field last year and is a 3 sport athlete. They only had 8 seniors last year I think. F-S always has speed, the difference between their usual good teams and their great teams is size in the lines, which they don't always have. My nephew was the center on the 09 and 10 teams, and he was 250 lbs., the biggest one on the team. Hard for them to beat teams who have comparable speed but are also bigger in the line. Smaller lines can work if you pass a lot and pass quickly, but F-S doesn't do that. A really good team is going to be 3rd place in this district, and the 4th place team can make some noise.
