Cooper 2015

Featured Replies

What does Cooper need to do to improve in 2015? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

This season will mostly come

down to QB play. Not sure yet who will be behind center.

They return the majority of their starters including the bread and butter of the team in their lines, both offense and defense lines.

NKY has a crop of great RB's and last year Cooper's own Armstrong led the entire pack in rushing yards.

They also have a corp of good receivers led by an individual with the best set of hands I've seen last year in D Hendrix. If anyone isn't familiar with him who may not have got to watch him

last year, he is the younger brother of a former Cooper Jaguar many on here will remember, Aaron Morgan. That family can ball.

They are also returning some key defensive players. The Keller twins who were ferocious last year playing LB. If there was an award for best pound for pound defensive player in NKY I think they both split the award. They may be small in stature but I'd take 11 of those guys on my defense everyday of the week. Don't let their size fool you as they both had pick 6's last year and I believe one of them

had 2 in the same game. They are ball Hawks. Cooper also returns some other players from injury last year who started before they got hurt including a DB who had 3 int's in only 2 games before his season was cut short.

Should be be a fun year for this team as they move up to 6A.

If Cooper can stay healthy, majority of the season , I wouldn't be surprised if they end up doing pretty successful in the new conference. This group of players and coaching staff, have something special out there and the kids buy into what the coach says !! Good luck Jags !!

Hoping the last minute QB decision works out as well for the Jags this season as it did last year. Luckily, it's having a choice between a handful of very capable kids, not an absence of talent that Borchers is dealing with. Given all this team is returning, and gaining back Smith and Hicks, this promises to be an exciting year in "north Union".

Defense will be key. The unit is smart and stingy. They hate to be scored upon and love to score. Looking for a huge year from them.

The offense may need to open it up a little, be less one-dimensional. Cordell-Armstrong is solid - he has gotten bigger, faster and stronger in the off-season and has truly put that bad break from his sophomore season behind him. But there has to be another weapon or three that can take the focus off him, make the opposing D do some guess work. Jackson is a very capable RB, actually hard to tell him and TCA apart on the field sometimes. Need some more consistency out of the receiving corp.

Hate to wish my summer away, but August can't get here soon enough!!

Cooper will be in dire need of a QB, but IDK who you go with, a kid that has played it on JV and some Varsity, or what I call a Sophie? I would always go with experience and age, but the way everyone is talking, coach is leaning younger. Then you have to look at defense, if they bring back all the hurt seniors where does it leave the ones that filled in and helped the team make a deep run at State. About the only thing for certain on the team IS TCA, Kellers and Watson. Everything else is WAY up in the air. This year could be good or bad, just depends on how the decisions are made.

Play the best players at each position, period. You reward hard work.

On a side note, I watched some film and have a lot of respect for both Kellers. A little undersized for MLB-OLB, but they are both ball hawks and good tacklers. Both these young men are not afraid to put a hat on some one.

Seen film on them also. Very good at not over running plays. They play with very good leverage at the tackle, consistently making contact from the hips down and good wrapping, which you have to do if you are undersized. No fear.

All excellent points ~ intelligence, quickness, conditioning, & technique will trump or lessen the dominance of a weight advantage even of a pretty skilled opponent, generally. Add teamwork & you can have a potent D. That's where good basic coaching comes in. Besides, not a high percentage of the heavies are D-1 bound but even so, I have seen better-trained players with no prospects neutralize highly-touted D-1 recruits. Coaching coaching coaching.
