Jay Stanley, 2A State Champion, Shot Put

The above picture was in this morning's Maysville Ledger Independent. Jay Stanley won the Ky HS Class 2A State Championship in the Shot Put. Jay's dad, Mike Stanley, and I have coached together for 19 years at Mason County. He and I are both retiring from teaching this spring. Mike has been a great example and brother in Christ for our students, football players and for me as well.

 

I have watched Jay work incredibly hard the last several years to achieve this goal, at the track and in the weightroom. He was often with Mike, and sometimes he would work with Ben Prather, an Iraq war veteran and former Royal football player. Those two men share in this victory as well as Jay's strength coaches at the HS, Chris Ullery and Shawn Nelson. Not to mention his track coach, Mark Kachler,who cranks out state champions like he is cooking burgers on the grill.
