What does Owensboro Catholic need to do to improve in 2015? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Their size on the lines killed them last year. Watched them scrimmage in the spring. ALOT bigger OL. Got some speed they haven't had in a while, but Zuberer and some WRs along with their 2 best Defensive players were still playing baseball.

 

Defense- If they can replace a DL I would say they will be fine. If not, then they will have to get a OL to play both ways. Lber's will be very athletic, DB's will be ver good as well.

 

Offensively- This could be a better year then last year if you can believe it. OC started 4 soph OL. They have made huge gains in weightroom and put on some pounds. They didn't seem to lose speed either. WR are very good. RB Jonathan Garner is a small but strong kid that has 4.56 speed. QB Ray Zuberer will be back from baseball and will complete the Offense. Lead the state in passing yards and TD's. With the OL better Zuberer may not have to run for his life.

 

This senior and junior class is more physical then the past two.

 

In order to beat Murray they can't turn the ball over and get on top early.

To beat Owensboro they can't turn the ball over and they have to get better defensively.

Murray is the least of their worries now.

I disagree, if they want to play Mayfield they will have to get past Murray. You know the OC vs. Murray playoff matchup will happen. Mayfield will be beat Murray in the regular season.

Who are the non district opponents for OC?

Owensboro- 5-A

Apollo- 5-A

Daviess Co. 6-A

North Hardin 6-A

South Spencer Indiana 3-A

They are playing a bowl game with either Holy Cross or Evansville Mater Dei. Both are 2-A in their respective states.

Agree with Rambo, offense is basically loaded again this year and potentially better than last. Defense seems to be missing that one stud either on the line or at db. Linebackers are solid. Barring injury, another 9-1 year and collision with Murray.

Rule 8

Catholic is going to have a very nice offense. I think the big question is the defense. When the Aces play upper echelon teams (ie OHS, Murray, Mayfield) that'll be the big question mark. OCath is extremely well coached, and the kids are almost always in positions to make plays. Beating OHS isn't important, but I think giving the Devils a good game is. Regardless of what happens, Murray and Mayfield are the beasts that'll be awaiting the Aces come playoff time. I see another stellar regular season for OCath. Hopefully they can pick up Evansville Mater Dei which will give them another quality opponent to prepare them for the post season. In order to make a run in the playoffs OCath must:

1- Stay healthy

2- Cut down the turnovers in playoff games

3- Force turnovers defensively

4- Make teams drive the length of the field to score

5- Get some touchdowns via special teams (ie Shamari Morton)

 

I love OCaths potential and the staff, but I just don't think the Aces can get past the two roadblocks in Murray and Mayfield. Both of those teams posses the kryptonite that seems to do the Aces in every year. Power running and athleticism. And if Murray was bad enough, Mayfield is going to up the pot even more. 2A is pretty tough up top, but OCath is going to have another stellar year regardless.

I keep thinking their D was giving them problems, but their O last year only put 9pts on the board in a 20-9 ballgame. I keep forgetting that Murray didn't score til 3rd qtr. If they want to beat Murray their OL play HAS to get better from last year and not commit 4 turnovers. They started 3-4 Sophmores on OL and have a Jr back that got injured in scrimmage with ACL last year. This should be a better OL and if they give Zuberer time against Murray they could win, if not it will be same as last year with Murray coming back from a 9-0 defecit to with the game.

 

Still TOO EARLY....

Even though I am not Catholic, I have always rooted for this team.

 

Hopefully they can have a great season and stay healthy as possible heading into the playoffs.
