Who made the KY All Star Team?

Featured Replies

Just like in the boys thread, I have two questions for those of you wondering why your player didn't make it:

1) Did you attend the tryouts?

2) Who would you remove from the team to make room for your player?

Don't just throw out names — justify why they should make it over someone else.

Having been to the try outs a couple times I would like to say that the coach seems to know who they want when practice starts. Anyone who has coached and been around sports notices the way the teams are split and who the coaches are looking at. Usually there are 1 or 2 that work their way on but thats it. 2 years ago Olivia Terry from Madison Central had by far the best try out and didn't make the team. I know this years process was a little different but I would bet the end result was close to the same. IMO it would be an extremely hard job to select the players. Lots of personal coaching preferences come into play here. By the way did the girl with the fresh shiner think she played well?

Didn't get to ask her, but heard from a trusted source that her HS coach said she played a little tentative and perhaps scared after getting the black eye early in the first day, probably costing her a spot. Given the player in question's physical attributes, I thought she had a better than average chance of making it, especially because of her defense, rebounding and athleticism.

Regardless, I think her skill set fits in well at the next level and she will be a fine collegian. :thumb:

every basketball fan in Ky could pick the top 7 players for the team. the challenge is picking the next 5 that will complete the team. perhaps its not the 12 best players by someones opinion but ends up being 12 individuals that make up the best team with some playing roles. this year coaches around the state set up stations with 3 girls each and ran drills throughout the first day. they kept stats on each girl and talked about their strenghts after each session. when a girl was not performing strongly in an area, coaches encouraged them to get the most out of them. very energetic and physical try out. I felt that each girl got a legitimate look and many slots were interchangeable with such a talented group. but when it comes down to it, the head coach has to have a team he feels that he can coach and win with. always easy to second quess. seems like they take it pretty seriously. these are all young people with great attitudes, it is a shame not to be able to put them all on the team,

I agree that, after the first half dozen or so, a coach could fill out the roster with any of a dozen or fifteen others. It just seems that, if it is a statewide team, someone from east of Lexington should have made it. The eastern half of the Commonwealth has no more ties to either team than it does to the Indiana team. I'm not lobbying for K. Faulkner and/or Rayburn. I am merely suggesting that our society, particularly in education, is overwhelmingly concerned with being politically correct and appearing "balanced". These two teams tilt dramatically and entirely to the middle and west.

It doesn't seem that this team is trying to be politically correct. The try out process trys to bring in players from around the state. Along with the head coach and coaches from around the state, they try to put together a group of individuals to form a team that will play within that coaches style. Where their going to or where they came from should not matter for this game. Political correctness has watered down our society and has enabled us to justify achieving at the lowest denominator. imo - when the coaches are choosing the team, I don't think they intentionally exclude players from certain regions. If a particular region or a heavily populated demographic area

has more candidates; then you would naturally assume that statiscally more players from those areas would end up in the final numbers. The same is true with Indiana. They also have more players to choose from; therefore, you have more chances at D1 players. This year Eastern Ky may have had a down year as did the rest of the state. Miss Cole from Breathitt Co. should have made the team - she did not show for try outs. E. Ky.
