Justice Department to Fault Ferguson Police, Seeing Racial Bias in Traffic Stops

Stuff like that is why I'm against corporate corrections.

Of course they've just been sued...not lost at this point.

Agree, but places like the SPLC don't have a ton of funding and usually don't fight lots of losing battles either though. They have to pick and choose the shots they take.

I think this kind of thinking applies to Fergueson, who at one point, said they'd pay for damages through more citations.

Here's the point I was trying to make about the revenue from tickets. In municipalities and/or places where there is less money coming back into the entity who writes the tickets, it's not surprising that they actually write fewer tickets.

From a legal perspective, it's pretty clear what the motivation was in Fergueson: raising revenue. From the NYT article linked below, and if you think it's about anything else, look at the graphic below that quote:

"Municipal fines are the city’s second-highest source of revenue. Last year Ferguson drivers paid $12,400 in fines for driving cars with tinted windows. They paid another $4,905 for loud music coming out of their cars."

You also have officers like Brian Larimore, Deborak Weir, and Todd VanHovein suing Departments because they were forced to meet quotas.

I don't see how you can just ignore things like that and mountains of evidence that there's bias in the stops and say, "oh, but they actually were guilty of going 5 over" like it's the same thing. The point is that there are plenty of others doing it, there's just selective punishment by a system that's incentivized to seek funding.
