Engineers come back to win the 56th district title

Congrats on the win!!!!!

Powell County had a good game plan...Do not let Trevor Jones beat you like he did the first two games and it worked for the most part....Trevor put Estill up 40-39 with 30 something seconds left...Powell County would turn it over, giving Estill the ball back, Estill Freshmen Caleb Bonny would get fouled, who would make both FT's. Powell County's 3 point shot at the buzzer went up and over the backboard for out of bounds with .4 left on the clock and that sealed it. Powell County lead most of the game. Estill came out firing in the 3rd quarter and took a 28-24 lead but it wouldn't hold. Estill trailed by 6 I think going into the final frame and was down 7 with right around 3 minutes or so to play when Estill got things together and outscored the Pirates 12-2 in those final minutes to pull out the 42-39 victory.

Powell County's Brad Smith was named defensive player of the tournament

Estill County's Trevor Jones was named tourney MVP

How many district titles does Estill County have in the Bentley era? He seems to own the 56.

Just looked it up...Estill has 2 district titles in the Bentley ERA....Coach Bentley is 33-8 against 56th district teams in his 5 years at Estill. Coach Bentley is 19 wins away from win 100

One thing I noticed in this year's 56th tournament is how small the teams were. It was like all 4 teams started 5 guards and came off the bench with guards for subs. Usually one or Two of the four teams have some players with size, but not this year.

District Champions!

Owsley County done a fantastic job hosting the district tourney. Always classy people and very polite.

Just now noticed that Powell County won all 3 quarters against Estill. Estill only scored 12 points the entire 4th quarter and those came 3:00 and under...
