I4C Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Survive and advance. Camels defense won this game. Ugly game on offense but made shots when we had to. Camels need to play a lot better in the finals. Ugly win is still a win. :thumb:

I will grant you that they went through a couple of extensive dry spells, but I thought that their offensive execution was brilliant, hurting us over and again with weak-side backdoor cuts. I thought their shot selection was good, and that they were patient on offense. I also thought that their transition game was effective, burning us on a couple of occasions with run-outs off of rebounds. They controlled the boards. Brossart had only one offensive rebound in the first half, and were one-done for most of the night. Whether the Fornash 3-point shots were ill-advised or not could be up for discussion, however, she (and Taylor Jolly) were wide open when she nailed the the two coffin corner shots, and put the nail in ours.

This was not the Camel team that I am used to seeing except when they woke up in the 4th Q. I had just said to Mr. Cat right before T. Jolly's trey that the Camels had not hit any 3 pointers yet which was unusual. Coach Menefee lit the girls up after Brossart went up by 4. I like that they reacted to that and took care of business.
TAC Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 After 3 and half quarters i was counting on another buzzer beater to end the game. A couple of nice runs by both teams kept this one interesting. To LAwilcats point, Camels were 0-6 from behind the arc in the first half and 4-6 from downtown in the 2nd half including 3 in the 4th quarter. They shot 38% from the field in the first half to Brossarts 40%. and took 26 shots to Brossart's 15 yet the score was only 22-18. 2nd half was 56% to 42.9% in favor of Camels. Lady Stangs ended up with 16 turnovers (to 9) and out rebounded the Lady Camels by 1 (24-23). There was an article in the paper the other day and I'd like to give a shout out to the 'head of the snake' for the Camels. Carson Gray did a nice job on defense and did all the little things to make the team tick. As the paper said she does not stuff the stat sheets but she is definitely a leader for the Lady Camels. Very fun game to watch. Good luck to the Camels the rest of the season and very classy move for the Brossart Head Coach to honor the 3 seniors prior to the game and giving them the Senior night start. I would have loved to have seen seldom used Blank hit those 2 ealry free throws.

Yes we got some back door cuts and shot the ball well for about 2-3 minutes of the 4th quarter which was huge but for 3 1/2 quarters we didn't shoot the ball well and looked very tight on offense. I agree we boxed out and contained Brossarts bigs very well. Just seeing our offense all year long and seeing it last night was not the same at all. We tried to force a lot of things and shots weren't falling early on. I'm not saying we didn't run any good half court sets, we did but when we are shooting well and being patient on offense it's really fun to watch. Brossart kept it a low scoring game which is what they needed to do. I just saw our defense as the key to this game as far as containing the bigs, help side D, boxing out and forcing turnovers.

I just wish Coach Menefee would give his "Come to Jesus" talk a little early in the game. The ole ticker has a hard time in games like this. Whatever he said to them in the timeout worked to perfection.

Irish22 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Congrats to Camels on victory it was earned. Huge 3's by Fornash to stick the dagger in, but was the entire game really about the Camels "not clicking"? Brossart did what was necessary to slow them down and got back into the game on the defensive end. Again credit to Camels for making shots when necessary but the game was close because Brossart did some things to keep it that way, when teams are not playing well or "clicking" the other team does have something to do with that. Congrats to Camels on the win

They worked on that endlessly when he helped coach her in 8th grade! Good luck at EKU, Rachel!

Congrats to Camels on the win I was responding to Mustang about the Camels offense. In no way shape or form was I trying to take anything away from Brossart. Sorry if you saw it that way, not my intention at all. Brossart showed a lot of heart by coming back from down 9 to take a 4 point lead. In that come back they were able to isolate Shannon and Schultz down low for some baskets and the one girl hit a big 3 in front of the Brossart bench. Camels were able to regroup and get out of there with the win. I said Brossart was able to keep it a low scoring game which is what the needed to do. IMO the Camels played worse last night than they did in the crosstown shootout (Offensively) so I'm happy to get out of there with a win last night.
